Women’s Sufferage Movement.

New Zealand was the 1st country in the WORLD to allow women to vote in September 19th 1893. On 19th of September 1893 Governor Lors Glasgow signed a new Electoral Act into law, and New Zealand became the first self-governing  country in the world to enshrine in law the right for women to vote in parliamentary elections. Kate Sheppard was the leading light in making New Zealand the first country to grant women  the vote in 1893. Kate Sheppard got nearly 32,000 signatures, but specifically 31,872 signatures. Kate Sheppard sadly died at her home in Riccarton, Christchurch on July 13 1934, at the age of 86 following years her health was declining and having outlived her first husband her son and her grandchild, she died in her sleep. she was buried in Addington cemetery. Her house is now a memorial and you can visit her house is located at 83 Clyde road, Christchurch.
