Aloha, everyone!
Yesterday we had Sophie Pascoe come to our school.
Sophie is a New Zealand paralympian who has won 19 Olympic medals (11 gold) with one leg. Her lower left leg was cut off in a lawnmower accident at the age of two. She wears a full carbon fiber prosthetic in its place.
Sophie came to our classroom and the day before we had to write down a question each for her. Not all of our questions actually got asked (or answered!), but I was lucky mine did. My question was “What was it like realising you had just won an olympic gold for the first time?”. I didn’t really get a straightforward answer, but then again that isn’t really something you can straightforwardly answer.
She told us her goal in her career was, to show this,”People who are different are still amazing people”. We got to hold some of her medals, because she brought four (one from each Olympics she’s been to). Apparently all of the medals at the Tokyo 2020/2021 Olympics were made entirely from recycled electronics! We also got to hold and wear the medals she brought!

Over all, I think It was a really exciting experience to have someone like that come to our school.
A hui hou, bye bye!!!
