In science class, we explored the reactive world of acids and bases. We learned that an acid is a substance that releases hydrogen ions, while a base is a substance that can neutralise acids. We used a Universal Indicator to identify them by colour: red, orange, and yellow represent acids, while blue and violet represent bases. One of the most exciting things we discovered is that when acids react with metals, they produce hydrogen gas, which can be identified with a “pop” test. 1 2 3 4
