The Blaketown Lagoon

Blaketown Lagoon Investigation

Question:
What can you find at the Blaketown Lagoon?

The Research:
The research told me that I would be able to find seashells, snails, fish, seaweed, sea cucumbers, worms, and drift in the Blaketown lagoon.

Hypothesis:
I think that we might find some crabs, lots of shells, shrimp and hoppers, snails and limpets, worms, heaps of different types of plants, drift, seaweed and diatoms.

Equipment:
The equipment we needed to use was a shovel, a skipping rope, a net, a magnifying container.

Test hypothesis/ procedure: The steps we had to do this experiment
First we had to put our skipping rope in the place we wanted it to be put. Then we got our shovels and the net and started digging to find what was on our list, then when we found something on the list we would tick it off the stuff we found on the list.

Data: The things we found while digging were baby crabs, a ton of rocks, shells, worms, and some seaweed.

5 baby crabs
Lots of rocks
2 worms
4 rocks with seaweed on them
3 seashells
And 4 pieces of seaweed

Analysis: I couldn’t test my hypothesis because when we went to the lagoon there had just been a drought from all of the rain. Even though it was meant to be low tide, it was high tide. Because of all the rain it meant we couldn’t go down to the mudflats and it meant it lowered the possibility of finding the aquatic animals that we thought we would find.

Conclusion: When we were down at the lagoon there was a fishing policeman called Adrian and he told us a little bit about what he does with his job, and how much fish and sea life you could catch.

With this cool experiment I found so many cool insects, and creatures that I thought I wouldn’t find down there. And after going down the lagoon I learnt more than I thought I would, I learnt that the water at the lagoon was sea water and the water that comes from streams, and rivers.
