Today in Chapter 7 Bruno builds a tire swing to pass the time but takes a nasty spill, badly scraping his knee. Pavel, an elderly Jewish camp prisoner forced to work as a waiter in the house, rushes to help and gently treats Bruno’s wounds. Pavel reveals he used to be a doctor, leaving Bruno confused. When Mother returns, she tells Pavel she will take credit for cleaning the wound to protect him from Father’s anger.
