Dame whina cooper was a respected Maori Kuia, who lead a hikoi from Te Hapua to wellington, she was born in hokianga and was promoted to commander in 1974, Whina was born in 1895, showed intrest in history and genlogy.
In 1951, she was elected the first president of the Maori women’s welfare league. She worked on health, housing, education and welfare. Dame Whina Cooper was a great hounred and respected Kuia leader there were so many things that made her special she always wanted to help people when they needed which people loved.
