Hello Fellow Readers, today is our last music lesson for term 2. Sadly, Mr Rea will not be with us for our last lesson of music. Since we have a reliever, we can choose an activity to do from the relief activity slides. I chose the activity to research about the ‘Diwali Festival’. From what i’ve heard and experienced Diwali is a Hindu or Indian festival that usually happens in October. It is a festival of light to celebrate the victory of a Lord named ‘Krishna’ from defeating a demon named ‘Naraka’ who is said to capture and imprison women and torment his subjects. Music that is played in the festival is usually a ‘Aarti’ song which is to praise the Hindu Gods. This song is also used for asking for strength. Indian classical dance forms like ‘Kathak’ and ‘Odissi’ is performed in the festival. Some instruments played in the festival are a ‘Sitar’ which is like a guitar, ‘Mridangam’ which is a percussion instrument, and a ‘Murali’ which is a flute with six holes.
