Science – eye Dissection

Hello bloggers! In today’s blog we are talking about our eye dissection lesson. My opinion about this dissecting is kinda bad, because it was goeey and smelly while we were cutting the eye open . But it was cool at the same time because the lens was so clear and hard at the same time.

The Equipment we use were

  • 1x tray
  • 1x dissecting needle
  • 1x cow eye
  • pair of gloves
  • 1x forceps
  • newspaper
  • 1x scissors
  • safety glasses

Here are some images of the tools.

We did 6 steps for our dissection, the steps were.

step 1. We have to place a newspaper on the table so the table is gonna be clean after we dissect. We put the eye on the tray and it was so slimy.

step 2. We have to identify the optic nerve and cornea first.

step 3. We had to cut around the middle of the eye to open it, the eye was so hard to cut open because it was slimy and there was a liquid inside. We have to be careful to not cut the cornea so we can display it after we are done dissecting.

step 4. We have to identify the retine and vetreous humor. We pull the humors out of the eye.

step 5. We Identify and pull out the lens carefully.

step 6. We have to identify the pupil and iris.

We have to pick 4 parts of the eye and explain how they work.
Lens – The lens in the eye is a clear, curved structure that focuses light onto the retina, allowing you to see clear images. It changes shape using ciliary muscles. It gets thicker to focus on near objects and flattens to focus on distant objects.

Retina – The retina captures focused light and translates it into coded nerve impulse. It relays these impulses thought the optic nerve directly to the brain.
Cornea – The cornea acts like a camera lens to focus incoming light and serves as though the windshield to protect the eye from the dirt and germs.
Iris -The iris is the colourful part of your eye, tiny muscles inside the iris control the size of your pupil, and a person’s eye colour is determined by their iris.
