William Pike Trail Ride
May 26 2026
On our William Pike bike ride we liked to see the different landscapes that changed as we went through the ride, like how one moment we were out in a field and the next there was rainforest surrounding us and it was hard to imagine anything different, until we got to the bridge.
We found it difficult to bike slowly without clipping the other peoples tires at one point. Who knew that going slower would take more concentration than speeding around corners?
We were all for the break at lunch and were amazed that we were already halfway and just had to go back the way we came, but our main thoughts consisted of the food in our bags.
It was fun on the way back when we biked as fast as we could, all the way from Tram Line Rd to the end of the Taramakau, that was definitely the highlight of the ride, although we had to pace ourselves after, keeping the same people in the front.
Going along the trail, we saw and heard different animals, one example is the baby chicks near the fields, their high pick chirps hard to miss. There were also heaps of different birds, Piwakawaka and weka were everywhere, someone even saw a pukeko!
I would definitely recommend this ride for anyone who wants a ride where you have to push but it’s worth it trust me after we did it I wanted to do it again.
