Takohanga means respect for not picking up starfish or any other sea creatures as well as leaving the rocky shore better than it was at the start picking up rubbish left on the shore. Picking up a starfish can harm it and make it unable to do tasks like suchining on to rock walls or anything else to move. When you are at the rocky shore it is your responsibility to look after sea animals and to keep the beach clean.
