Looking back at my original ideas and my thumbnail sketches it’s kind of hard to decipher what i was really thinking about. But, overall, I loved the idea of my own world, light, patterns, and creatures.
I loved the idea of a border around a main subject, making it clear what was meant to be looked at, the center being the focal point of the work. I also like the idea of the border being very patternized.
So, overall, i would like to create pieces of work that revolve around a detailed patterned border, something with repeating motifs with the center filled with one creature or person.
My pieces of work will explore the idea of imaginary creatures that feature the idea of light, colours, and patterns.
I would like to paint creatures because it gives me a lot more creative freedom. It relates to the Mystical, Colour, and Texture theme in a fantastical way through building my own world. It also relates back to one of previous artists studies with Hieronymus Bosch and how he would make creatures that were quite bizarre.
I am really interested in creating pieces of work that feel surreal that give the audience a feeling of wonder.
For my paintings I would use a light wash maybe blue or cream coloured to try make the colours on top pop.
Technique wise i want to focus on painting on top of wet paint, making shades of colours on the painting as a go.
I want to paint creatures, so I would like to put thick layers in some area to try create the illusion of fur, scales, skin. For my colour palette i love the idea of something bright and saturated, focusing on the cooler side of the colour wheel.
I am doing this because it matches my theme of mystical, colour, and textures because of the bright colours and the texture that i want to create.
In my previous studies, I looked at the artists Hieronymus Bosch and I am continuing to use his style throughout my future works. I am using them because i like the wimmelbilder affect where there’s so much to look at and take in. I will copy this technique in my own work my creating heavily patterned borders around my central art work.
For my second artist Mati Klarwein, i will use his work as a model for his use of bright colours. I like this because in my opinion it makes everything visually more interesting.
My third artist is Liz Hart, when researching about her, I figured out that she likes to use her colours in a symbolic matter, like using certain colours for a more livelier feel of a painting, I want to approach my artworks in the same way, choosing colours that represent a mood and a feeling rather than just placing them on my canvas.
On top of all of this, the idea of learning mische technique as Mati Klarwein used it often in his works.
