Food test

Aim: To see what food group they contain

Equipment: Goggles, test tubes, metal spatula, glass vials, beaker, starch, glucose, fat and protein.

Method: Get the solid foods, mush them with the metal spatula then pour 1-2 ml of water. Drop some of the instructed amount of the starch, glucose, fat and protein. Observe the changes and see if they are on that specific food group.

Carbohydrate are your body’s primary and most immediate source of energy. Fiber is a plant based carbohydrate that your body cannot digest, it regulates digestion, prevents constipation, stabilizes blood sugar and keeps you full. Protein acts as the body building blocks. Fats are what protects your organs, regulates hormones and gives you essential vitamins.

To see if the food group is present it need to change into a specific colour. The Iodine one was black, the glucose was orange and the protein was purple.

This test is useful so we know what the food product contains so we are aware of what we’re consuming.
