Kia ora,
Last night was a big night. It was something we had been preparing for since the beginning of the term; our Dancing Like the Stars performance.
Dancing Like the Stars is a school event where different schools create fun and entertaining dance routines to perform in front of a large audience. Our routine was quite different from everyone else’s because we performed a circus-themed act using props such as diablos, hula-hoops, and poi.
When we first walked into the stadium, I got chills. The place was huge, and there were so many schools there. We found a spot to put our bags down and started warming up. It was a little scary because other schools were watching us. When the show started, we took our seats to watch the performances before us, as we were the seventh school to perform. As I watched the other schools, I started to feel nervous because they all looked so clean and polished.
Before I knew it, it was our turn to perform. I was shaking with nerves as we walked onto the stage, but as soon as the music started everyone knew what they were doing, and our routine came together really well. The audience cheered loudly, which made the performance even more exciting. we messed up a bit but we knew we would, I still think we did very well compared to some of our practices.
After we finished, I felt proud of myself and the class. All of the hard work and practice we had put in throughout the term had paid off. It was an amazing experience, and we also learnt a lot.
Huge thanks to the people who took their time and patience on us; teaching us everything we did. So thank you so much Chris and Lisa who teach circus and acrobatics. They are based in New Brighton. Without them there would have been no performance.
