Hero of the Hacksaw Ridge

Question : How does the creator use setting to help you understand an important idea in the text?

In the text, The Hero of Hacksaw Ridge written by Booton Herndon which is set during World War Two specific settings which helped me understand the key idea  that we should never give up and always try to do the right thing, were Hacksaw Ridge in Okinawa Japan and the  training camp in Virginia USA. I think the author used these setting to help the audience understand the idea that never give up and do the right things because I thing the author wants us to realise that in life things aren’t always easy. Always stand up for what you believe in

A key setting which helped me to understand the message of doing the right things was the setting of  Hacksaw Ridge. This setting was described in the text as things aren’t always easy. Desmond’s experience of this setting was difficult and hard for him this was evident when Desmond Doss was climbing the Ride of the Hacksaw. The way in which he reacted to the setting helps the audience to realise that Desmond is a brave and caring person who does not bow to social pressure Desmond found this setting challenging  because he chose not to hold a gun because of his religion. He didn’t want to wrong God and he didn’t want to hurt other human beings.

Another key setting which helped me to understand the message of  courage was standing up for what you believe in and not following the majority of having the courage of your convictions. This setting was described in the text as Not resorting to any violence.
