Room 6 – Term 1, Week 1 Blog (2026)

Kia ora whānau,

Welcome to Term 1! My name is Mrs Virk, and I am so excited to be your child’s Room 6 teacher for 2026. Week 1 has been a wonderful start, full of smiles, confidence, and curiosity as I got to know our amazing learners.

Our tamariki began the term with confidence, introducing themselves and learning about one another. We spent time working on our “All About Me” writing, where students shared who they are, what they love, and what makes them special. It was lovely to see their pride and enthusiasm as they wrote and talked about themselves.

As part of our learning, we also came together to learn about Waitangi Day. Through this, we discussed the importance of respect, kindness, and working together. The children then created our very own Room 6 Class Treaty. Each learner wrote their name on a feather, and together we agreed on the rules and values that will guide us in our classroom this year. This was a meaningful experience and a great way to build a strong sense of belonging.

Our inquiry topic for this term is “Where I Come From and What It Means to Be a Kiwi.” To begin this journey, the children created Me Maps, sharing their identity, culture, and experiences. They explored what transitioning to New Zealand means for them and how their backgrounds shape who they are. Please have a look at their work—it beautifully reflects their learning and identity.

Week 1 has truly been fun and has sparked excitement for learning. There is so much more to come, and I can’t wait to continue this journey with our Room 6 learners.

Reminders:
🏊‍♀️ Swimming lessons are on Wednesdays and Fridays – please ensure your child brings their swimming gear on these days.

Thank you for your continued support. Stay tuned for more learning and fun ahead!

Ngā mihi nui,
Mrs Virk
Room 6 Teacher, 2026 💛
