Burger Reflection – Home Economics

Kia Ora

In Home Economics we have been doing some work on making a burger for a burger competition. We have been trying to make a burger that is so delicious the judges (which came into the class after we made our final burger) loved it. My groups burger was a vegetarian burger. The burger was called Plantastic Patty. We are doing a burger reflection on the burger and have to answer the following questions:

  1. Identify the different ingredients you used to create colour and how did it enhance the overall appearance of your burger? – Lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber and the lentils in the patty. They enhanced the overall appearance of the burger because it brought out more colour and made it look more appealing and colourful.
  2. What ingredients did you include in your burger to create texture and what was the effect on the product as you ate it? – The ingredients we included in the burger is the lentils, carrots and potatoes in the patty, and the lettuce which made it nice and crunchy which went well with the soft burger bun.
  3. Name two different ingredients you used to enhance the flavour in your patty? – Two ingredients we added to enhance the flavour of the patty is lentils and tomato sauce.
  4. Explain why you used these flavours? – We used these flavours because it went well with the bun and vegetables in the burger.
  5. What were you hoping the people eating your burger to experience? – We were hoping for the people eating our burger to experience a nice soft, moist patty with a soft bun, and crunchy vegetables.
  6. What were your successes with your final presentation? – The successes with the final presentation is that it was very colourful and you could see almost every ingredient.
  7. If you were to do this practical again, what changes would you make if you had no restrictions? – The changes we would make if there were no restrictions are adding more egg to the patty to help it stick together better, as it was very crumbly.

Here is a photo of the burger we made:
