tip to Owea Marae.

We have been writing about our trip to the Marae and here is mine.

Tip to Owae Marae

Last week, we learned about the Marae.

First, we walked down to the Marae and when we arrived at Owae Marae Whaea AJ talked about the entry of the Marae.  We saw patterns and designs and then we walked through the entry and we waited under the office for Whaea Tiri.

Secondly, when she arrived she told us about the buildings and the statue. Whaea Tiri let us into the buildings and talked about the houses where the men and the women cooked the food and rested. We went into the buildings and we saw pictures on the walls of men that went to the war and lots of carving and tukutuku panels. We started to look around the walls.

Next, we talked about the statue of Sir Maui Pomare and we walked to the statue. We talked about him when he was born and when he died too. He was born in 1875 or 1876 and he died in 1930.

It was close to morning tea time so we had to make our way back to school. We arrived back at school just in time to grab our morning tea out of our bags.

I enjoyed my time down at the marae and I look forward to going down there again to learn more stuff with my class.
