This term we have been doing forensics
this is all I have learned
starting off with explaining how forensic scientists use forensics to figure out the truth
Forensic scientists use science like biology, chemistry, and physics to study clues from a crime scene and turn them into evidence that can be used in court. Their work is based on the Locard Exchange Principle, which means “every contact leaves a trace.” This means that when someone commits a crime, they will always leave something behind and also take something away with them.
why are fingerprints more “individual” than blood spatter or shoe-prints?
Everyone’s fingerprints are unique, so they are one of the best ways to identify a person. Other clues can help too, but they’re usually less exact. For example, if there was a shoe print in blood and it matched a pair of Nike Air Force 1 shoes, investigators could narrow down the suspects. But more than one person might own the same shoes. Fingerprints are better because they can match to one specific person, not just a group.
Describe a fictional crime scene where a footprint and a trait (like hair color) are used together to narrow down a suspect list.
In a small, dusty apartment, a single muddy footprint, clearly a size 12 men’s work boot, was found near the forced backdoor, narrowing the suspects down to a few maintenance workers, but the case broke when a microscopical analysis of a thick, dyed blonde strand of hair caught in the door hinge matched that of only one worker, “Big Mike,” who was known for his dyed hair and work boot preference, effectively eliminating the other candidates with large feet and focusing the investigation on him.
Explain the importance of not contaminating a crime scene.
Contaminating a crime scene is critical to avoid because it compromises evidence integrity, potentially leading to wrongful convictions, missed suspects, or cases being dismissed in court. Contamination, including the introduction of new DNA or movement of items, degrades the reliability of forensic samples like blood, hair, and fibres.
If you had to be a Forensic Scientist, what type would you be and WHY?
To become a highly effective Forensic Ballistics Expet works with firearms, analyzes bullets, and testifies in court, you need to combene a strong scientific foundation with specializd hands-on training.
