In Science we have been learning about energy and the different types of energy.
Some of the main types of energy are:
- Light energy
- Sound energy
- Heat energy
- Electrical energy
- Chemical potential energy
- Elastic potential energy
- Gravitational potential energy
- Kinetic energy
What is Energy Transformation?
Energy transformation is when energy changes from one form into another.
For our science class activity, we made a cup cannon and looked at the energy transformations that happened when it was launched.
When I pulled back the balloon, elastic potential energy was in the stretched balloon. When I let go, that energy changed into kinetic energy, which pushed the tin foil ball out of the cup. As the tin foil ball moved through the air, it also produced sound energy. Some energy was also transformed into heat energy because of friction between the air and the moving ball.
Here is my animation showing the energy transformation of our cup cannon.
