I the 17th century Captain Cook and his party arrived to New Zealand when a few british were looking around and well they were looking around they seen these men walking around that didn’t look like them so the Maori walked toward and there was one British that was holding a gun and when the Maori people got closer he shot two warning shots and once Te Maro the Maori man in the front got closer the british with the gun, shot Te Maro in the heart and died.

My Captain Cook Causes and Effects Animation
In class recently we have been learning about Captain Cook and his exploration of New Zealand. We have been looking into Captain Cook’s first encounters with Maori and how how some of his actions on the beach at Poverty Bay in 1769 still causes conflict today. We learnt about his first experiences with Maori and his misunderstanding of their greetings and culture.

Capt Cook Causes and Effects
In class we’ve been studying and looking at Captain Cook and his effects on the country. We had to chose an event and do an animation. The animation had to show a cause and an effect.
I have done Cook and how he named places. He named places based on his experience there. His place names made the British feel at home but made the Maori feel less at home.
The first scene is of the Poverty Bay landing. There was a huge lack of communication even though they had a translator. A few of the Maori were shot and killed so they didn’t give Cook what he wanted. Cook assumed they didn’t have what he needed. This lead to him thinking the area was poor, hence the name Poverty Bay.
When Cook landed in, what was soon to be Cannibal Cove, he was greeted by Maori. The Maori had a human arm bone as an offering. The arm was from an enemy that they had killed. They had eaten the flesh off of the bone, so Cook called the cove, Cannibal Cove.

1)I think that Salva would share his water because he’s a lot stronger and would be able to handle it.
2)Because he wants to save innocent people and he wants to save his friends and family and save Sothern Sudan.
3)Because his uncle died and he was the leader of the group and lost respect for him.
4)He realized that his family was dead when his uncle said he wants to go back a fight for the war and the memory he had to try and survive the camp whas when his uncil said he needs to walk as far as the bush.

1.Maybe because his uncle thinks he needs it more for him to grow stronger but if he was already older and stronger I reckon he would let him share.
2.Because he probably believes that Salva’s old enough to be by himself so goes off and helps.
3.They started treating how they treated him when he first came to their group.
4.When before his uncle died he told something to Salva and Salva realised that his family was gone and that he was alone.
Fun Run 2019!
On Monday we went for a hikoi downtown to the train station to catch a ride to the UK rugby fields for our fun run. We then arrived at the fields and jumped off the train to go set up where we’re going to sit down and put our bags. We then had a chant off which was very fun then after that we got the year 1’s ready to run first, then so on and so on, like after the year 1’s it went to the year 2’s then year 3’s all the to year 8. When it got to the year 7’s and 8’s we went for a run but we took the longest cause we had a mud fight and got the teachers dirty and then went for a swim which was very cold but entertaining at the same time.

If I was an alcoholic, would you ask me to put liquor in my bag? Would you ask me to put it in my pocket? No, but we do this with our students and their mobile phones…

I am an adult, and I have enough life experiences and tools in my kete to ensure that I look after my emotional well being, but our students do not have that ability, yet. After 35 years of teaching I know that at school we expect our students’ parents to have taught their children ways of coping with life, and put some safety net for their well being in place, but it does not always happen.
I have experienced myself how the length of time spend on my mobile phone is directly linked to the black dog (depression)!! I’ve experienced myself how it impacts on my sleep patterns and on my well being,…Now if I as an adult experience this, how much more , would a young impressionable mind of a teenager “suffer”??I am totally addicted to my mobile phone, I took it everywhere with me, I even found myself in front of the television, and being on face book on my mobile phone at the same time. How can I sit back and feel that I’ve done a good job at teaching my students about algebra, statistics, geometry AND not be concerned about the enemy in the room. I quote from an article:
“have cell phones really destroyed a generation?? we don’t know….” Surely we can not answer this question when it is too late???
I can not stand by and not try to do something about this, life and it’s ebb and flow have taught me, never to stand alone. In my small and humble way, I would like to find like minded teachers, and have some meaningful discussions around this topic. I started wondering how other people feel about this, because everything is “googelable”, so I’ve discovered a few great articles and videos. Please feel free to add some more articles and videos in the comments. In my “research” I also saw that I am certainly not alone in my concerns about this problem, all state schools in Victoria will be banning all cell phones in all schools from next year. France has put a ban on them(2018) , some schools in Auckland has put a ban on them….

Training
For the past 3 weeks the whole of Te Ngahere have been practicing for our upcoming cross country. Everyday we practice cross country training to help us get a hang of running for so long. We all have to run 5 laps of our course. First we start off by the bike shed and make our way towards the pump track. We then run around the pump track once then carry on through the gate starting to make our way up between the whare. We slightly move around the corner and then we run a lap of the court, make our way back through the whare then sprint toward the finish line right next to the playground. After doing 5 laps of that I was exhausted but I know that it is really helping me to prepare for the day.
Kiwi culture
Kiwifruit, or Chinese gooseberry, is the edible berry of several species of woody vines in the genus Actinidia. The bird was called kiwi by the Maori. Later NZers were called Kiwis. Some time around the 1970s the fruit of Actinidia, native to China, but loved in New Zealand, which was until then called chinese gooseberry was renamed kiwifruit as a marketing move. Yr 9 Maths
In maths, we have been doing group work it was good to collaborate and work with new people. The group norms we have been using listen to each other, Participate and be patient. To follow these rules I listen to everyone’s ideas and I was patient with everyone. there is nothing I could do to make the norms better. I am grateful for my family and friends.
