Explosive Wonder Project

In Te Ngahere last week a couple groups have already started building their rocket. In class yesterday my group & I started to build our rocket. In my group I have Mihi, Chum and Stilly to work with. We started yesterday because all the other days we forget to bring the equipment but if we brang it before we could had started last week or on that day. My group & I all got together on a table with all our equipment and started to cut the ice cream containers for our fins. We still need to complete our rocket before we start to test it and testing is today. So I reckon my group needs to get a move on and catch up with a few other groups. I think my group is going well because we all communicate but we just need to focus. If you had to opportunity to do the Wonder Project would you ? This is a little sneak peak of what our rocket will be like.

BOIC All About Me

Kia Ora my name is Jacque I am a year 9 at Bay of Islands College. I am New Zealand Maori, Cook Islander, and Samoan. I’m an only child. Something I enjoy is being surrounded by all of my friends and family. Challenges I have faced have been having multiple teachers, and also tests that we’ve had so far. A personal goal of mine is to be able to be able to pick up my maths. A new experience was being in the bilingual unit. It was a surprise to me as to how much maori we actually do, but has been hard to adapt to the changes.  I’m really looking forward to my years to come. If I do my full 4 years at this college,  that will be the first time I spent my whole school years at one school. I’m very excited for my years to come.

Distance Reading Task

Today I had to research the distance between these places:

Sapporo to Beijing:

2,098 km

San Francisco to Ottawa:

4,620 km

Hobart to Egypt:

Beijing:

1. The population of Beijing is 21.54 million.

2. Beijing is one of the oldest cities in the world.

3. Beijing is the second-largest city in China.

San Francisco:

1. San Francisco’s population is 883,305.

2. San Francisco’s nickname is “The Golden City”

3. The Golden Gate Bridge, a bridge in San Francisco is 2,737 meters long.

Ottawa:

1. Ottawa is the capital of Canada.

2. Ottawa’s population is 994,837.

Music: Artist research

During music over the past few weeks, we have been researching an artist of our choice. I chose The Weeknd because I think that he has a style that I quite diverse. We needed to researched about them, when they were born, their music style, who inspired them, etc. We then had to give examples of our favourite songs, choose one, and then look at the timbre, dynamics and texture. Thank you Whaea Rose for the time you spent with us this options rotation. Below is my artist research slide:

Day 5 DFI – Collaborative Sites

So Day 5 was yet another awesome day of learning with the company of great like-minded people. My bubble group leader Vicki is just fantastic, so easy to listen to and to understand, thank you Vicki.
Today we concentrated on setting up our own google site. Very daunting idea, I must say, for someone who is not one of you fantastic teachers however, with the good fortune of having Dorothy Burt all to myself for an hour, and her excellent insight and encouragement, I am quite pleased with my progress so far in setting up my google site. After looking at the shared resource from Dorothy on Tech Toolkit for Families I decided that Bay of Islands College should have a google site promoting cybersmart information for parents and their learners. Made some good progress and is now a work in progress with the input from our Principal. See link

Thank you to the team of facilitators, you are always so willing to share your knowledge. I am looking forward to spending some time next week on two toolkits I have signed up for (never thought I would take part in these) and working on my new google site. For now I will take a well earned break from the computer screen and pop up to the school and catch up with what needs doing before the weekend.
