Me and my granddad went to the garden to get some onions and we went to pull it out. but it was to hard so we went to get my sister. we got it out but there was a problem. it was to big we even tired to ask people to help cut it it was so hard to cut all of as where crying but we managed to heft it and we had onion soup it was the beast .

Today my mum said we are having mac and cheese tonight! And of course I asked for extra cheese! I cant keep thinking about it! it looks so good in my head,I cant wait until……WHY JUST WHY! My auntie came over so now I cant have mac and CHEESE! I needed to calm down so I watched Sponge bob, and guess what he enraged CHEESE!! I was so happy I went to the beach and yelled “I LOVE SPONGE BOB!!” I didnt really care if people judged me! now I think I like Sponge bob… Now I watch Sponge bob everyday and I kiss sponges!

Hey bloggers, today in arts I have been planning my folio board.
My subject matter is greek mythology, it relates to my kaupapa because it is the main part of the folio board.
I am planning on using, paints, google drawing, a printer, Adobe, and I will try to draw some parts of the folio board.
It’ll be linked together because I will be using the same kaupapa or subject matter for every series; greek mythology.
My artist is Sofia Minson, I am using her for the inspiration of my folio board. I will try to copy her idea, like putting patterns behind the main object or having a little bit of photo collage.

I love football I like playing football at school. It would be cool if you can play football in the pool or on bikes. I wonder if vegetables can play football. The vegetables are playing football the broccoli vs lettuces a half time one of the broccoli got a phone call and all the broccoli were annoyed with him. He was on the phone in the game. The broccoli lost.

What Subversion means
Subversion is undermining the power of something.
Subversion in art
The main point I got from the text is that art is supposed to be subverted and it’s the reason for the existence of art, it’s what makes a good artist. Art is made to educate, to challenge, and was created to bring a message. It expresses something and is not always understood by people and a lot of the time when people don’t understand something and the meaning of something they find it ugly, stupid, meaningless and so much more. Art challenges people and is meant to bring another point to life. Art is a way of expressing your voice, opinion, feelings and so much more.

In the art piece, Tracey Tawhiao uses subversion to create a piece of art that isn’t intended to bring happiness to others as such but to put meaning into it. The art she creates holds meanings through things such as the words she uses and includes in her work.

Sweet success by Tracey Tawhaio
What I see from this artwork is positivity, she has incorporated the words “the big great, sweet success and freedom” The words freedom are in the top left corner with a spiral. Spirals symbolize the rhythm of life. I believe this is a great way to add subversion into the artwork when I first looked at the piece I just thought that it was placed randomly except when I search deeper into it I found meaning and a link between the word and the spiral.
One thing I noticed about this artwork and the artist is the use of negative space, in a lot of Tracey Tawhiaos art pieces the use of negative space is repeated and intended. Negative space can be used to amplify the meaning of an image and show its importance as it is clearly aimed to be the focal point and isn’t surrounded by anything that takes the attention of the image that is made to have meaning.
The colors Tracey uses in this art piece are bold and bright neon colors. The positive space in this piece stands out, the majority of it is covered in warm tones and has a few cool tones as well. The piece is bright and is hooking its audience through the use of color

Sofia Minson works on mythological deities from Maori, Egyptian, Hindu, and Christian cosmology
She finds links between Hinduism, Christianity, and Egyptian mythology and combines them.
Her works are named after gods and goddesses
The series draws influence from Goldie and Lindauer. They were the most creative painters of their time and the best-known painters of Maori subjects.
Ruru by Sofia Minson
This artwork shows realism and different patterns, the colors go well together making it easy on the eye, they are simply colors, and there aren’t a lot of them. You can see the amount of detail that is put in the art and how the amount of positive space overcomes the negative space.
I believe each artist and artwork has subversion whether or not it’s small traces of it or a lot, artist create art to prove something, to make something meaningful, and to show some sort of opinion. If the artist has a strong opinion about something and has expressed it within their work it is subversion because others may not realize the importance or the reason something is incorporated in the art or even what the art is supposed to be and mean.
Sofia Minson includes mountains and an owl in her art. She has enlarged the size of the owl and put it in the center of the art piece, it is placed on mountains and surrounded by patterns. The owl’s head is the focal point as it is surrounded by the bright colors of the triangles. The circles in the art help to show how the owl is centered and is the main point/view. I’m not sure if the meaning of the owl is related to my thinking, but in early folklore, owls meant helpfulness and wisdom, this was an Aesop’s fables meaning a story told by a greek storyteller; the main topic/subject of the stories are animals in which teaches moral lessons.
Sofia Minson uses people and realism in her artwork, Tracey Tawhaio uses lettering and grids, and patterns in her artworks, the color is quite bold and multiple colors are used. Tracey Tawhiao uses colors that are on the complete opposite side of the color wheel. She uses grids and formats in her art pieces whereas Sofia Minson’s layout is freer.

The Enigma of the Hour by Giorgio de Chirico
This piece shows two people, one is standing in the light whilst the other is standing in the dark under the building, on the building is a 24-hour clock set at 11:15. The building in the artwork is quite open and the colors are both warm and cool-toned and the background color is blue to represent the sky
De Chirico’s own interest was highly encouraged by his childhood experiences such as being raised by his Italian parents in Greece. Whilst living in Paris in the 1910s, his homesickness possible may have led to the classically inspired pictures of empty town squares, which he is best known for.
Until I researched I didn’t know about this and I predict a lot of others don’t either, meaning the art is meaningful and for his own purpose and reason, subversion is undermining the meaning, power, message, and cause behind something and looking at his art I realize how subversion is demonstrated in this piece and many others. I didn’t know that the meaning in his art was related to his childhood setting and scenery, it’s something that needs deeper research to know and if I was in an art gallery looking at the piece I wouldn’t understand the intentions of it, I’d underestimate the meaning and that is what subversion is all about.
One of the similarities between Tracey Tawhiao and De Chirico’s work is the use of grids. Although De Chirico’s uses grids the use of grids is less visible in his art, he combines this technique with perspective usage.

In Tracey’s art pieces the use of grids occurs repeatedly, not only do the grids help to make things look a bit tidier than intended but also help parts of the artwork stand out and visualize their kaupapa.
In some, the grid isn’t as visible as it is in others. Grids are also used to proportion and are commonly used among artists. In Tracey Tawhaio’s art grids are very obvious, in her art, there’s a lot going on which is why grids make it easier to understand whereas in Sofia Minson’s art images aren’t boxed and it’s freer. Sofia Minson uses shapes to create a more vivid focal point, in some of Tracey Tawhaios’s words she uses patterns to do the same thing. They both make their focal point stand out in ways that show similarities. Their kaupapa both include te Reo Maori in their art pieces, such as the Maori patterns. Sofia’s work includes Maori people and patterns and Tracey’s include Maori patterns and some of the main images appear to be kowhai, each of Tracey’s works involves Maori relation and can easily be seen as her kaupapa. As discovered, Sofia works on mythological deities from Maori, Egyptian, Hindu, and Christian cosmology, Maori concepts are shown in her work and are part of her kaupapa.

(Reason Why I would Be Invisible): I would be invisible because if someone was in danger I could Have saved them by being in danger. When you’re invisible there are a lot of things you could do. You could save some and you could Stop people from stealing Something.

visual pepeha
Kia ora my name is Soni and I am a year 8 student at Paihia school. A while ago I made a visual pepeha and I’m going to explain how we made them. First we had to write our pepeha on a piece of paper and do a line drawing on top for an outline, after that we got it checked by a teacher and they gave us a square piece of paper. We had to write our Maunga on one square piece of paper, our Awa on another piece.Then once we had shown it to the teacher we had to go over it with sharpie and when we were finished it, we got watercolours and practised blending the water colours trying to fade it dark to light. Whaea Ronnie told us that colours like red, orange and yellow are hot colours and colours like blue and green are cold colours. Then once we were able to blend it properly we were able to do it on our good copy. So once we were finished and it was dry we could get a long black piece of paper and glue our pepeha on, once we had glued it on we had to cut out a picture ourselves and glue it at the bottom. Once it was done we hanged it up on a piece of string connected to both of the walls in our classroom.
