for the last few weeks or so we have been working on explanation writing.
explanation writing, as the name states is when you make a piece of writing that explains something
in my case the life cycle of a butterfly
before we started working on the explanation writing, we practiced our notes with the topic plastic
for the notes we used the Cornell method
were we write key words and do a little explaining beside them
and hamburger
I cant quite remember what we did for the hamburger though
once we had finished practising taking notes we moved on to the butterfly life cycle
we didn’t have to do a butterfly life cycle you got to chose between the a butterfly life cycle or a frog
life cycle
I choose to do the butterfly life cycle
when we first started on the life cycle we started by using the Cornell method to take notes
once we finished taking notes we stared a google doc and used our notes to write
- introduction
- egg stage
- larva stage
- chrysalis/cocoon stage
- butterfly stage
once you finished on the google doc we show the teacher then she will tell us something to add
once we’ve done adding whatever we were told to include we make a presentation on canva
and include all the stuff fro our google doc and make it look nice then we check it with the teacher
and blog it
which is what i’m doing now.

The life cycle of a butterfly
Did you know that there are over 15,000 types of butterflies?
The butterfly is an amazing creature with 4 stages of the butterfly life cycle, the egg, larvae, chrysalis and the butterfly!
The egg stage
First the caterpillar will break itself out of the egg and eat the remains of the egg, the leaves, flowers and other food around it.
Larvae stage
Then the caterpillar eats all the food it can find to have enough energy to build the chrysalis and will shed about 4-5 times so its skin doesn’t get too tight before it forms a chrysalis.
Chrysalis stage
Once the caterpillar has eaten enough it starts to make a chrysalis around its body to evolve into a butterfly.
Butterfly stage
After the caterpillar has been in the chrysalis for 5-25 days it will break free and dry its wings so it can fly then if it’s female she will fly away to find a place to lay her eggs to continue the cycle.
