In the Shadow of the Pines, written by Anne Koizumi, heavily illustrates the idea of family bringing both love, and embarrassment, but shaping who we are as people. Anne Koizumi explores the childhood shame she felt of her Japanese father, and wanting him to be shaped as the father she pictured in her head, the one from the stories. The name symbolises the themes of deep emotional burden, and the hidden painful memories from her past.

Anne Koizumi story made me feel a wave of different emotions through the adaption of the story. I was heavily influenced to appreciate family more, and everything they do for me. It really helped me to realise the true family meaning, and I think that Anne’s story really goes to show how family should always be appreciated, and never be taken for granted. You never really know when its to late to show that love to them.
