Science @Smalley

In this lesson we designed our own power station our group chose to create a Windmill, Our image consists of our power station and labels on our power station, Our windmill is designed with a windshaft in the middle, turbines around the windshaft and power Stations below transferring the power from the wind generating the energy to head into houses, This was our power station. Group Members, David, Vihaan, Joseph, Shahin, Jonty

Our power station uses wind power. This is a renewable source and we know that because this source is coming directly from the Earth and will never run out, Our power station produces energy by turning the kinetic energy of moving air into electrical energy because when the wind hits the turbines it creates a differential air pressure that forces the rotor to spin, This rotation is then sped up by a gearbox and converted into electricity by a generator,

Where in NZ are these being used

This picture is located in the Tararua Ranges near Palmerston North, This is one of the biggest wind turbine farms in nz
