Tongan Language Week is an unusual event aimed at paying respect to the tongue, traditions, and culture of the Kingdom of Tonga. This archipelago is situated in the South Pacific Ocean. The capital of the country is Nuku Alofa which is situated on the Tongatapu island. This country is well-known because of friendly people, vivid culture and high level of unity.
First of all, it will be interesting to know some of traditional greetings in Tongan. For example, the expression “malo lele” means “hello” and can be used during the greeting of somebody. Besides, there is another well-known greeting “Nofo A” that means “goodbye”. In such a way, using these phrases, we respect the Tongan language and its culture.
Traditional food is very important part of any celebration. The most famous foods of the country include ‘ota ika (raw fish salad), lu pulu (corned beef cooked in taro leaves and coconut cream), and faikaki (a dessert that includes dumplings and coconut syrup).
The flag of Tonga is an unusual thing with its peculiar history and symbols. Red cross is placed on the bright background in the upper right-hand corner of the flag, while the rest of the flag is red. White color means the purity and faith, red one means the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
