La tomatina festival Infographic

One of our recent library challenges was to put our smart searching skills to the test by investigating the famous La Tomatina festival. We were tasked with researching three key facts: exactly where it takes place, when it happens each year, and the historical or cultural reasons why it happens. Once we gathered and verified our research, we used those facts alongside creative AI prompting skills to design a visual infographic in Gemini.

Something I found particularly interesting was that the fun tradition originated from a “tomato- throwing” fight in 1945.  Something I found challenging during the process was making a good prompt in order to get what I wanted.

History of the Dawn Raids

We used our summary of our research to create TEEL paragraphs to show our understanding. After grouping our ideas in paragraphs we generated images that went with each paragraph using Gemini. Something I found challenging was…

We used our paragraphs and images to create a Google vid to share our learning. Something I learnt when recording was hard and you had to record in the right place and you have to speak very loud so you can hear your own voice

Dawn Raids.

Last week Friday we had a special visitor. Will ‘llolahia. Will ‘llolahia was a famous polynesian panther for Aotearoa. He came to visit our class to tell us about what Will did and his social justice group. Will’s and the Polynesian panther helped Aotearoa stop the Dawn Raids. The dawn raids started in 1974 and ended in 1979 while the dawn raids was still happening Will ‘llolahia and the polynesian stoped it by fighting to stop racism and the unfair treatment against pacific islanders and Maori people in Aotearoa. Something I found interesting was when Will came to visit us.

Helpful Posters

This term, our class has been learning about a significant and challenging chapter in Aotearoa New Zealand’s history. This was a deeply stressful and frightening era for our Pasifika community when government rules changed, and Pacific people were unfairly targeted as scapegoats for the country’s economic struggles. In  response to this social injustice, a group of young activists called the Polynesian Panthers —mostly teenagers and young adults—stepped up to defend and support the affected families. They worked tirelessly to move their community “into the light” by distributing informational flyers, organizing community survival programs, and creating a “Legal Aid Book” alongside lawyer David Lange to teach families their legal rights so they would never feel helpless.
Inspired by the Panthers’ courage and their powerful slogans like “Knowledge is Power” and “Educate to Liberate” our classroom’s challenge was to design our own historical posters. We started with a quick write session to brainstorm key themes of fairness, protection, and community identity. After drafting our ideas, we wrote descriptive prompts in Gemini to generate digital versions of our ideas written on a paper. We quickly learned that words have power; we had to constantly edit, adapt, and refine our prompts to get the exact imagery of what we had in vision. My poster features the Polyneisian Panther’s logo and a fist symbol which both represent equality and fairness, I also displayed a fake number to make it more realistic and information for where to meet up and what time, aswell as some tips that they may have needed during the Dawn Raids.

Quick Write ✏

Every week we make a different story about a picture. This week we wrote about a kid pilot. This is my favourite paragraph.

WHOOSH! Timmy zoomed through the sky at 650 miles per hour. Timmy was going so fast that the wind was blowing his blonde hair back. His small feet and hands reached for the accelerator. His skinny body with small jeans and a blue t-shirt were so bright they intimidated the birds. The helmet he had on was about ten sizes too big and was going to fall any second now, but he didn’t care because he was having so much fun. His big smile was brighter than the sun.

Quick write is one of my favourite subjects in school.

🍞 Reading create tasks 1 and 3 , W6 T3 ☕

Entry 1

Hi bloggers! Welcome to my blog for week 6 . I have been away the whole week so these we’re kind of rushed but I still tried to put as much detail as I can ! Here is my Walt and date , I also want to try something new called a “Word goal” For every entry , entry 2 will include entry 1’s words . so I will add the word goal too.

WALT: Identify how the natural world is portrayed in media and considering the messaged this may convey .

DATE: 28 8   26

WORD GOAL: 180

also I will include if my word goal is met , or not .

My first create task is the glossary so let me tell you about it .

I had to add 3 words with suffix’s ( Example: Ed , ing , etc )

And the rest were able to just be normal words that I may or may not have known the meaning of , I did know the meaning of one word but I didn’t know how to write it. also since this book did not have a glossary I searched it up on  Google which helped me know how to write it . I did not know most of these words and I also tried to make it as hard as possible so it would actually be helpful .

Here is my create task , sadly I am not able to tell you about the book since I was away and wasn’t able to read it .

Here it is .

I would add a link  but i’m not sure why it doesn’t work .

This is the end of entry 1

Word goal: Met!!

Word count : 263

Entry 2

WALT: Identify how the natural world is portrayed in media and considering the messaged this may convey .

DATE: 28826

Word goal: 370

Hi bloggers! ! For create task 2 I did the create a creature and I did not have room to describe it since I did it in the corner of my page so even though I am not able to add the arrows

let me describe it a little first . It is a bunny but a new species . it is not suitable for a house pet cause it is a bit too affectionate it gets dangerous. ‘

Here It is !!

It was quite rushed that’s why it doesn’t look to great , but let me tell you some more !

It has candy canes for ears and it has swirls that disappear when they get frightened or mad sad .

It is really cute irl ( In real life ) And yeah!
End of entry 2

Word goal: Met!!

Word count : 416
