Hi my name is Ezrae and I´m a year 9 writing from Bay Of Island College and today I will be Talking to you about 3 states of Matter and The Changing of matter.
The 3 states of matter
Look around you: everything is made of matter. Matter is just “stuff” that takes up space and has mass. Scientists say matter usually comes in three main states: solid, liquid, and gas.
SOLIDS
A solid keeps its own shape.
-
The particles (tiny bits) are packed closely together and just vibrate in place.
-
Examples: ice, a rock, a pencil, your desk.
Because the particles are so close and held tightly, solids are usually hard to squash and do not flow.
LIQUIDS
A liquid takes the shape of its container but keeps the same volume (amount of space).
-
The particles are still close, but they can slide past each other, so liquids can flow.
-
Examples: water, juice, milk, cooking oil.
That is why water can be poured and spreads out to fill the bottom of a cup or a bowl.
GASES
A gas has no fixed shape and no fixed volume
-
The particles are far apart and move quickly in all directions
-
Examples: air, water vapour (steam), helium in a balloon.
Gases spread out to fill all the space available, like air filling a room or a balloon.
