King snooze new job

Task Description: This week I have started and finished reading a different text. This text is called “Good Little Samoan Boy”. This story to me was quite personal and sad, especially the fact that the main character (the young boy in my DLO below) mainly grew up without his father there for him. I think that the reason for this may be because his father wanted him to choose a side, Palagi or Samoan.

This story as stated below, is about a young boy who is an afakasi – half Samoan and half Palagi. This story shows how he accepts both of his races despite being told he had to choose one. Many people might relate to this, being trapped between their 2 cultures. Though, at the end of this book he found that he could represent both cultures, not caring about being shamed by people from both of his races and cultures.

I found this book quite interesting, as every paragraph held a strange sense of understanding and meaning towards the writer. I felt connected to the boy in some way, and on this day he is still alive and is a New Zealand journalist and actor.

Last week Friday the whole school had crazy hair. They even could go on the stage. Carey, my rival Carey he had a so cool hair there was a spider in his head. It was the best day ever. Everyone who won got a chocolate  .

On Friday it was wacky hair day. We went to Friday assembly. We needed to bring a gold coin for child cancer. Then my friend Charles had a dead rat in his hair. That’s my wacky hair day story hope you like it. The end.

Task Description: Last Friday, I have yet attended another 40 minute- 1 hour Kiwi Can session. For those who don’t have knowledge of what Kiwi can do, – They teach students such as me, all about the values of life as well as when and how to use it.

The value they taught us last week on Friday was perseverance. I have known this word for a few years, though I haven’t discovered the depth of this value, until last Friday as stated. Perseverance is what we need when times are hard, when we feel as though we cannot continue. This value was something we had to show during the energiser and activity they had prepared for us to do.

The energiser was the push up / burpee challenge, which may be known as -Sally up, Sally down. This energiser tested my limits, as we had to do push ups for sally down (until sally up is said once again) and for sally up we had to jump up. To mitigate the slight strain in my arms from the push ups, I did slower and steadier push ups. The activity was quite simple, just a game of tug of war. Though my hands got slight rope burn and stung.

As usual, to go along with the value – we had a country. Our country was Papua New Guinea, since it was their language week. The most interesting fact I was told, is the fact that their money is actually called kina.  Despite all this the main moral is to Persevere. Which I made a short poster about.

I read Zapped! The Project. The kids made a robot from old Junk then zap! The lightening made the robot work!

I made a race game with my reading group after reading Let’s Race by Dr Sarah Kenworthy.

Task Description: This week me and my reading group : kereruu, read a text called ”Mata I Pusi”. This title is Samoan for “Cat eyes”. Many of you may be wondering what the title of the text technically means, as you probably haven’t read the text like I have. Though There will be a DLO ( digital learning object) at the bottom of this blog explaining what this book is about.

I will still explain the text if you rely more on words instead of pictures and short texts. This book was about a young girl who is half Samoan and Half Palagi. Because of this, she despises her looks and small quirks her Samoan grandmother has – such as curtains over her mirrors. She has said that she feels as though she is a mixed up fruit salad because of her ethnicity and who she is. Though in the end, her good friend Alison – who is also Palagi, tells her that she gets called a carrot head for her vibrant ginger hair and freckle face for her scattered freckles. This then reassures her that all these features simply make up who she is, and there is no need to change her identity in the end.

Task Description: This week me and my class have been assigned to work discreetly on a project most seniors would be delighted to work on. This project is about receiving a long awaited and wanted senior school playground.

For the past few years, my school has had one playground mainly meant for the juniors. They had a weekly roster on who could go on, and who couldn’t. Though this year, room 1 and 2 have been granted the privilege of having a spot in that roster. This meant that my class and room 10 were (one of) the only classes in school that are not permitted to step foot on the playground.

I always loved the playground, until this very age. So this project HAS to be finished before I leave for high school-which is next year. This is a very big project, though with the right planning and design – It can be done. That is when my persuasive writing comes in. In order to contact certain people to assist in building this playground – we need funds and the permission from the board of trustees. The reason we need their approval, is that this project was merely talked about among 3 teachers -My teacher, the principle and a junior school teacher.

Now that you may have an idea of why this project means a lot and why we had to write a persuasive piece of writing, here are a few points on why and why not we should have this to understand my writing better.

Task Description: This week on Monday we have walked to technology classes as usual. Like every week, I was in DVC or art technology. I have now researched the meaning of DVC in order to understand the class more. DVC generally means – Design and visual communication.

Anyways, In our class this week we made Pounamu inspired clay sculptures. Like all Pounamu, There was a hole that we had poked at the top of our sculpture in order to hang it on a necklace when we are finished. Our teacher instructed us to put the hole in the top-middle part of the Pounamu with thick sides and a thick space of clay from the top as well. This will ensure that our Pounamu won’t crack and break.

You might be wondering what type of shape we did and how we sculpted it out of clay. First we got a small chunk of clay and shaped it into a circle ensuring it is smooth with no cracks. Then we made a small puddle of water in front of us where we will be working and flattened the clay, though not too thin and still thick. By then we would’ve taken it off the puddle of water and it would be an oval shape. If there are cracks, dip your fingers in water and smooth it up. Then we pinch lightly in the middle and round the top. By then we can poke the hole and start carving designs. Though we could do any shape.

The main thing we have learned in this class, was how to control clay and how to carve designs with potters tools and most importantly, being patient with your design.

It was happy Father’s Day. And it was my dad’s birthday. And he is now 40 years old. And I asked my dad can we go to the park. And he said yes so me. And my baby brother. And my brother said that he wants to stay with my dad. And me. And my baby brother. And also my mum is coming to
