Decimal

We have been learning about decimal points, multiplying, rounding, adding and turning decimals into fractions.
This week we learned about decimals, it was hard at first until we got help.
I slowly began to understand it, and i certainly liked writing them in expanded form.
Like: 0.456, would be 4 over ten, five over one hundred, and six over a thousand.
We also learnt how to times and divide decimals..
When you times the decimals, moves right.
When you divide it, it moves left.
The number of times it moves depends on the number of zeros at the end of the ten it’s being timed by.

Mondays in the winterless North

Today my aim is to get ONE of my senior classes to start on their blogging journey.

We live in a DIGITAL savvy era! Ask yourself the question:

What are my next steps?

Probably most of you had the answer about either getting your year 13 and then a job.  Now today we are opening the door to getting yourself a “digital” footprint and online identity that you can share with those people who are in the next part of your “career pathway”. You need to have some proof of who you are, what you do, what you believe in?

I am hoping to start you off today on a blogging journey:
Some about me blog posts as suggestions:
Nickname
what I love
what I believe in
Likes/interests
favourite subjects
purpose of your blog
This is the link to our school’s blog site.

If I was an employer and I had shortlisted 2 people for possible employment, and one of them had a blog that I could read, I would possibly go for the person with the “on-line” identity, as I could read about who he/she is and learn more about this person, than the one without the online identity.  This is not a face book profile, this is all about a professional identity.  It should be positive.

We are trying this as a Level 2 class (group 2)
Maybe your first question after answering: who am I…. should be:

Where am I off to next. Is it Level 3, is it a job, is it after school studies??
Then  this should be the focus of your new blog!!

You can always edit a bad page. You can’t edit a blank page.”

Scientific method info graphic

Today Te Ngahere has started a new T shaped Literacy activity. The topics for our reading activities were about science. We were learning about the scientific method and understanding how it works and why it is so efficient. Next we had to create an infographic about the scientific method. We had to use images and words so that others can get a better understanding of the method by reading the words and analyzing the images. These are the six steps for the scientific method. Here is my infographic that I made today and the six methods.

  1. Ask a question
  2. Gather information and observe (research)
  3. Make a hypothesis (guess the answer)
  4. Experiment and test your hypothesis
  5. Analyze your test results
  6. Present a conclusion

Persuasion

Today in writing we re-visited O.R.E.O writing and I did a UN-jumbling activity that helped me to restore my memory of Oreo writing. After we took a stance on a topic. “Animals should be kept as pets”. The easy part was coming up with reasons the hard part was trying to come up with reasons on the spot in our debate against pets should not be kept as pets. My next step is to backup my reasons

the rocket chellenge

in MNL we have been learning about how to make rockets out of plastic bottles and would cut out some fins made out of ice cream container and made a nose cone out of another plastic bottle and decorated it with  some tape.
What my team and me need to improve on is the wings, they need to be a bit smaller before they were way to big and made it go off course, so were going to have to make the wings a bit smaller.

The Rocket Challenge-2019 MNL

On the 20th of June we were testing our rockets and at the same time I guess we were doing a challenge as well.

We were all in small groups, and when we had our turn, it was really fun (And I was inpatient). Some of our  parachute failed, one of them worked (What a surprise), some of our rockets went barely that far, and obviously there was ONE rocket that went far.
And everyone’s rocket was a success (in their own way). For my group’s rocket, we are going to modify it for our final launch by making the fins smaller and removing our parachute.

Angels

This week we have been learning about angels, I think that I’m going good but i cloud do better, the easy part was drawing the line and the centre point, the hard part was trying to  get as much different angels, we also learnt some names for angels if it is less than 90* then it called acute and if it more then 90* and  less than 180* then it called obtuse. I found this learning really interesting to do but next time I’m gonna focus so I know more about angels.

Northland Wars animation

For the past few weeks in  Te Ngahere we have been creating animations and writing scripts about what we learnt from all the stories we have recently been reading. We were learning to make an animation about a part of a story of our choice.  We were given many differents articles to read which were about refugees, immigrants and the New Zealand wars. Using all of our knowledge from the stories we read our next task was to re-create a part of a story that we liked and make it into an animation , my buddy and I decided to do an animation about the Northland wars. We had to have 4-5 parts that included ,why they came to New Zealand,  what happened when they came to New Zealand and what the two sides thought about each other. Creating our animation and writing our script took us about a week to complete and about two days to screencastify it. I enjoyed learning about the Northland wars because now I have a better understanding about what the wars were about back then. Next time I think I will be able to create my animation and script faster and will definitely be able to screencastify it a lot quicker.

It was 3:00 pm in the year 31,000 when Will hopped into his boat and started to
paddle into the middle of the harbour. He was paddling for half and hour.
By the time he had reached the middle it was 3:30 pm.

Will started to fish and he court 10 fish and then got his biggest and last catch for the
rest of his life. He was pulling and pulling and trying to hold on to his rod and the his
catch started to pull harder then Will. and then…
Will went tumbling into the water. And then the shark pulled him to the bottom of the

Screaming for help , wanting to  go home. Only thing you could hear was a dog barking. A big  lepeared

Runs outside  and animals sprinting  back into my room trying  to go back to sleep hoping it was just a dream
23  people at camp, morning tea is ready guys. Craunching  into bed, waking up 30min latter not being able

to get it off the top of my head the thought  being a leopard wanting to know why i’m the only leopard and ever

everyone else is a dog. Feeling bad but deep down feeling cool .
I can  run faster i can see in the dark OMG! Best day that ever happened to me.
