Tupaia – A Short Review Of

Tupaia, a Polynesian who travelled with Captain Cook, was a navigator who used the stars for guidance. Tupaia was fluent in many Pasifika languages, and translated to Cook (in English), although he had to learn English onboard. Tupaia hasn’t been credited for his involvement in Cook’s voyage to Aotearoa because that occurred in a racist time. In short, Tupaia was (and is) an unsung hero due to timing.
