What I did while I was in the holidays.

W.A.L.T Infrom our audience.
Coastlands plans for the future
Before the school holidays my class had a shared lunch before we went into the school holidays and after the shared lunch we went into our holidays and in the holidays I stayed home with my family and on the 1st week me and my brother/Raymond went to my aunties house to sleep over.

while I was there with Raymond I went upstairs to play drums because my cousin was showing me how to play drums so I did learn how to play drums then after that I went back downstairs to play some games on my cousin’s laptop and played gta then after an hour my turn was over then my brother went on nd played but after that it was night so my cousin put on a movie before we all went to bed, And the movie was called Aladdin.

Next day later, it was morining time so I had breakfast then my auntie said want to go on walk with the dog/Casper and me and my brother said yes then we went for a walk with Casper and we were all talking about work then when we went back home then myu mum came to pick us up then we went home and played games until the next day.

2nd week, When it was sunday I went to paraparaumu with my mum, my brother and myself with my mums friend Nikki and Nikki’s son came to named Justin and we all went to paraparaumu then when we got there we went shoping at farmers and we also went to a cafe then we got drinks then after that we brought a ice carmel latte for my cousin that works at the lotto that my auntie owns then I got some things then we just went back home.

My holidays 20.7.2020

My first week was so boring because I did nothing but chores. And play games on the computer.

However my second week of the holidays was Alright. I Got new shoes and a haircut and flash clothes. It was really nice. I Had rugby training and went to nga purapura for basketball. Now that was fun.

I saw old friends and made new friends. It was fun. We lost every single game though we tried our best. Took the dog on a walk every day because he would bark non stop for hours on end. On saturday was when my mum and dad, sister went to wellington for flash clothes and shoes.

Sunday was when me and my brother went to paraparaumu because we had to. We got flash shoes and had a nice breakfast. The places we went to in paraparaumu was rebel sports. I forgot the name of the other shop. It was cool I got two new pairs of shoes one are Adidas and chucks which are Converse. I did not get them today because the shop did not have my shoe size. They ordered them in and told my mum and dad to pay for them and that they would call them when they got there. My mum and dad paid for them. And that is the end of my holidays.

Migration assessment😅

Kia ora so today i am making a blog post about what I learnt about migration in social studies I hope you enjoy my essay and learn a little about migration.

For the past term in social studies I have been learning a lot about migration. I learnt about the Moriori and  European settlers. Them arriving to New Zealand has made a really big difference to New Zealand a difference that makes us how we are today. We have learnt what they have encountered or did on there Navigation journey. We have learnt as a class the struggle of Moriori. Back then the food and supplies were very rare for them, But with practise and hard work they got the hang of doing everything to provide those things. Over the years they were on Aotearoa there were settlers that came with pest animals that kill native animals then the population of native animals were becoming smaller and smaller till there were only just a few. Then there was war that happened very often the people in the area got so use to it that it became a regular thing. Then the treaty came 1940 got signed for justice and peace between Maori and British. They signed because they wanted there children to have better days. Migration is all about new beginnings for people moving. We learnt so much history and the truth about New Zealand. So much im even talking to my dad about it. The history has its message and the future is still creating its one. I learnt a lot about migration

Student Cartoon Portraits/ Avatars

Kia ora, in Term 2 our students created their own avatars based on a selfie of their head and shoulder area. We mix up their Social Studies learning with cybersmart learning as we call it. This allows students a break from constant and focussed topic studies and gives them something exciting to create using cyber learning and other digital tools. Some of the protraits a very realistic and others are a light hearted look at themselves.

Revision and the Google Teacher Level 1 Exam

I had just 2 hours to prepare for this exam, you know..the Google Teacher Level 1 exam. Our bubble leader knowing me for a few years was very optimistic about my ability to ace the Level 1. I can just say “WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE” I run out of time. Really. Look how drained and tired I look.
Photo of Chris just after his Goole exam
On a lighter note, the DFI course conducted over 9 days by Manaiakalani was refreshing and if I fail the exam I will definitely give it another go. Awesome team and was great to connect with other teachers across New Zealand.
For those interested in doing the Level 1 Google certification can just go to the teachers at google page for more info.
Dorothy asked us to cover the following points in our day 9 blog entry.

What are you proud of? I am proud to be a teacher in New Zealand. We learned a lot during Covid-19 Lockdown as teachers and I am sure that our students had the support and teaching they needed. When we compare our 2020 mid-year results with 2019 we are ahead at this point of time. We were able to do this by being a digital google school, as well as all the support from our community and parents. So yes, I am a proud Kiwi.

What do you regret? I regret that we do not have enough time during our days that we could invest in more training of our teachers without burning them out. I also regret that we do not have a teacher exchange program running in New Zealand.

What will you be taking forward into the ‘new’ era of schooling? It became clear during this lockdown that digital contact between people can help us cope, and gives us resources and tools to be able to function better as humans and as teachers. Physical distances between people and places can be overcome by applying digital technologies. I see a flexible school timetables with students deciding when they will attend online or onsite classes. Networking and collaboration between teachers will also become more visible as we move forward. Teachers will also become more and more tech savvy.
