Ra Haka Day

Friday the 21st of May, we had Ra Haka Day and Pink Shirt day. Pink Shirt day is when you wear multiple pink things or just a pink shirt. Pink Shirt day is to stand up against bullying and to support the cancer society. I wore pink shoes, socks, shirt, tutu and a wig with multiple stickers standing up to bullying. The whole school went to the hall and we practised the waiata and the college haka, after practising for awhile we got split into our house colours and did it with our group. The house colours are blue for Matai, red for Rimu, Green for Totara and yellow for Kauri. I’m in Rimu.

Each group practised for 30 minutes, my group practised the haka about 12 times. Once each group finished practising we all went to the big gym (gym one) and did the haka in our groups, then once we finished doing it in our groups. We did it as a whole school. I recon matai was the best. But if those that didn’t know it got more practise, I recon we would have done really good.

After doing it indivually and as a whole school, it was time for break 2. Once break 2 had finished, everyone went back to the hall to do the waiata. After practising the waiata about 10 times, we seperated the hall in half so once side would stand and do the actions, and the other side would do the singing. It was a pretty good day and I enjoyed learning the haka and the waiata.
