Hi everyone!
In Ruru for writing, we have currently been writing information reports. So as you may or may not have already seen in my other writing blog posts, I have posted my Capybara information report and my Sloth one. So then after finishing both of those, I’m currently blogging my county report. (About the Philippines) Oh yeah so for those of you who don’t know what an information report is, it’s basically a peice of writing that gives you true information and facts about a topic. Anyways so as I was saying, I have already blogged my Caybara and Sloth information report so now I’m blogging my country report one. Actually, I’m pretty sure in my last blog post about writing, I mentioned that I was currently writing a country report about the Philippines and that that’s what I’m gonna blog next. Well I don’t think that I neccesarily said that I was gonna right about the Philippines, but I did say that I’m writing a county information report. (I think thats what I said) Ok so anyways back to the topic, for the report we got to choose any country to write about. I chose to you write about the Philippines which you already know, but I chose it because although the Philippines is my homeland, it’s where I and both my parents are from, I don’t know much about it. I was still quite young when I was there so thats why. So like I chose the Philippines because I wanted to learn more about it, and I thought that it would also be quite fun to write about it.
Alrighty so now that I’m done talking about all of that stuff, now I’m gonna talk you through in order of what we did. Firstly, we had to plan it. Now when your writing about something, you always have to have a plan. It like helps you with your writing, it lists down all the ideas you have. So on our plan there were 5 boxes with 5 sub-headings. (sub-headings like each name for the paragraphs) We had to fill them out and put as much ideas as we could. We had to research and find facts about it. All it takes to have a good plan, when you have a good plan you’ll most likely end up with a good peice of writing. So the 5 sub-headings were landmarks (famous places in hat country), culture (what the culture like in that country, languages), location (where in the world is that country), food (traditional foods) and lastly moments in history (important things that happened in the past). We had to fill all of them out with good detail. After planning, we had to check it off with the teacher to make that it’s all good and to make sure that were all ready to start writing. Then we had to start writing it in our books. Also like I said a while ago, your plan helps when writing so if you forgot the ideas you had or / what you’ve researched. After writing th country report in our books, we had to again check it off with the teacher to make sure it’s all good and edited. Then we had to publish it onto a google doc on our chromebooks. We had to also edit it ourselves after typing it to make sure that it’s all done and finished. (You could also decorate it however you want) Lastly, we would then have to blog it which I’m doing right now. (We also had to make a travel brochure using the information we putted used in our country reports, but I don’t think we need to blog that)

Introduction:
Has someone ever told you or have you ever wondered what the national bird in the Philippines is? Well it’s actually a monkey-eating eagle. Now I know that the name sounds a bit different than others but I’ll tell you something surprising about it. So you may think that the monkey-eating eagle eats monkeys as it says in its name, but it actually doesn’t. It’s just known as the monkey eating eagle because the animals that he/she preys on are larger than him/her. There are animals such as pigs, snakes and bats. Also here’s another cool fact about it, it’s one of the rarest and most powerful birds in the world! If you kill one, you could literally be in jail for 12 years. Hi everyone! In this information report I will be talking to you about the Philippines. I’ll be talking a lot about it and the facts I’ll tell you will be mind-blowing, but mainly I’ll just be talking about the yummy traditional foods, the culture, where it is in the world, the famous landmarks and lastly the important moments in history. Maybe I’ll also tell you a few facts along the way while talking about all that. Oh yeah should I start off with telling you one of those “mind-blowing” facts I told you about? Well I will anyway so, here is a cool fact to get started. Did you know that the Philippines is around the age of 50 million today? Well I know it may not seem so mind-blowing, however 50 million years is a long time. Way longer than anyone could live for. It was about the year 49,997,977 BCE. No one was probably alive that time. Well maybe dinosaurs were alive that time. Anyways, I’m done talking about that so let’s get started into writing!
Location: – where in the world?
Okay so now you know that the Philippines is around 50 million years old today, but where in the world is it? Do you know where in the world it has been all these 50 million years? Well if you don’t know the answer to that, don’t worry because I’ll be answering that right now! Alright so as you might or might not already know, the Philippines is in Asia. Well when I say Asia I don’t mean in all of Asia of course, Philippines is only in Southeast Asia. (Maritime Southeast Asia) It is located in the Western Pacific Ocean and is at the Eastern rim of the Asiatic Mediterranean. It is also bounded in the West by the South China Sea, in the East near the Pacific Ocean, in the South where the Sulu and Celebes Seas are and in the North by the Bashi Channel. If you don’t know where those oceans/seas are, (which most of you probably don’t) I’ll just tell you some of the countries near the Philippines. So the Philippines’ neighboring countries are Taiwan to the North, Malaysia and Indonesia to the South, Vietnam to the West, and China to the Northwest. Hopefully that gives you more of an idea about where the Philippines is in the world/map. (If you didn’t know already) Okay so now that I’ve told you where the Philippines is, it’s time to end this paragraph. But before that, I’ll be telling you a cool fact about the Philippines: did you know that the Philippines consists of more than 7,000 islands? Well 7,641 islands to be exact and by the way did you also know that (this fact isn’t super cool but it doesn’t really matter), Philippines is the 63rd largest country in the world?
Landmarks:
The Philippines has many many islands as you already know (7,641 islands) but do you know what beautiful places and landmarks those islands consist of? Actually, the Philippines is well known for those beautiful places like the beaches, volcanoes and ect. Oh yeah, talking about volcanoes, here’s another one of my “mind-blowing” facts: did you know that there are more volcanoes than towns in the Philippines? Actually there are 300 volcanoes in the Philippines, well before there was, now there are only about 100 left with only 24 remaining to be active! (The most active one is the Mayon Volcano) Anyways, now it’s time to finally talk about the landmarks. Alrighty so first things first, let’s talk about the chocolate hills. The chocolate hills are basically a bunch of chocolate hills but they’re covered in grass. They’re all on one field in Bohol island and the view is magnificent. After that, there is the Jose Rizal monument. This landmark is a historical one, actually Jose Rizal is a national hero of the Philippines. Then it’s the Mayon volcano. This volcano is one of the most famous ones. It’s also the most active volcano as I already said a while ago. Its last eruption was in 2018. The next following landmark is called Fort San Pedro. It’s a museum in Cebu city. (The oldest city) Next is Puerto Princesa. Puerto Princesa is a beautiful river in Palawan island. Lastly but most certainly not least, there is Boracay. Boracay is a beautiful beach/resort. It’s a nice place to swim in and have a vacation. It also has fun activities like going on boat rides and even seeing sea animals in the aquarium. (You could see the sea animals in real life as in like touching them, not just through some glass)
Food:
All of those places are beautiful, however also included with having good landmarks is having good food that comes with it. So now I’ll name some traditional foods in the Philippines. (I know that I will miss a lot of the good foods, but I can’t put all of them into one paragraph) First things first is Adobo, you can’t make a list of traditional Filipino food without Adobo on top. So for those of you who don’t know what Adobo is, it is like a chicken/pork that has a special sauce. Next is Lechon. Lechon is a roast pig and is mostly served only on special occasions. After that, it’s Pancit. Pancit is a type of noodle (without soup) that has vegetables. (Sometimes chicken and seafood) Then it’s Shanghai and Lumpia. Lumpia is like a spring roll but it only has vegetables and Shanghai is like an ordinary spring roll. Following on is Ube which I think a lot of you already know, is used in desserts, breads etc. (By the way in english it’s called purple yam) After the Ube, it’s Taho. Taho is a drink that has tofu, syrup, and tapioca pearls. (I might have missed a few things) Alright so that was all the main food, now I’m gonna talk about the desserts. I’ll start off with the best dessert, Lecheflan. Lecheflan is like a creamy sort of cake that has caramel sauce. Then next I’ll tell you about one of the most famous dessert, Halo-halo. Halo-halo is a cold dessert with crushed ice, Ube ice cream, Lecheflan, nata de coco (like jelly), coconut ect and you have to mix them all together. (Halo-halo means mix-mix) Lastly, there is Buko-pandan/coffee jelly. Buko-pandan is a liquid dessert that has nata de coco, coconut, (sometimes cheese) ect. Then coffee jelly is basically the same, its coffee flavored, but no coconuts and no cheese.
Culture:
So of course food is always a favorite but they’re especially good for Filipino fiestas! (Filipino fiestas are like party celebrations) Okay so now talking about celebrations and stuff, I’ll be talking you through the culture of the Philippines. Firstly, top 1 on the list is pagmamano. Pagmamno is a sign of respect to older people. (When I say old people I don’t mean some kids that are older than you, I mean adults like your parents, your Aunt, your Uncle, your Grandma, your Grandpa ect) Anyways, so basically what you do is get their hand and put it to your forehead for about a second or so. Oh also by the way, about the party celebration thing, a traditional thing at the Filipino parties is having competitive karaoke. In fact, Filipinos actually love singing and practically any type of music. Now its time for a cool fact: did you know that there are over 180 languages in the Philippines? Well to be exact there are 183. Actually before there were 187, but now 4 of those languages are no longer existing. Oh and also, yes the Philippines has many languages but there is one main one called “Tagalog”. Anyways, next for culture is the 3 month Christmas. Well of course there isn’t actually a “3 month Christmas” but Filipinos just like to act as if there is one. The decorations and celebrations go for around 3 months so basically it is like 3 months of Christmas. Alright now lastly there are the street parades which is when they walk around the street in beautiful costumes. (This normally happens on occasions related to the Philippines, for example Philippines independence day which is on June 12)
Important moments in history:
Now you know that the 12th of June is independence day in the Philippines, but do you know why? It’s because the 12th of June 1946 is the day when the Philippines became an independent country. It’s the day when the United States granted full independence to the Philippines. Before independence day, the Philippines was ruled by countries such as America, Japan and Spain! Japan ruled the Philippines for only 3 years meanwhile America, 44 years. (America ruled the Philippines in 1898-1942 and Japan ruled the Philippines from 1942-1945) So now you might be thinking, what about Spain? Well to answer that, Spain actually ruled the Philippines for more than 300 years! (333 years) Spain was also the first country that colonized the Philippines (Ferdinand Magellan was the guy who came to the Philippines and claimed to colonize it) and this happened in the year 1521 until 1898. This is also why some words in Tagalog are similar to some of the words in Spanish. Oh yeah by the way, did you know that the Philippines got named after Phillip who was a king in Spain. The Philippines got its name from an explorer called Ruy Lopez de Villalobos. But before Ruy Lopez de Villalobos named the Philippines, the Philippines was known for the name “Las Felipinas”. By the way, Jose Rizal, as I already said, was a national hero in the Philippines. He’s a national hero because his ideas helped to formulate a national identity for the Philippines, he was officially a national hero on December 30 1896. Also last thing before this paragraph ends and goes to a conclusion. Have you ever wondered who the first people in the Philippines were? Well it was a group of Negritos. (Negritos are people from Andaman Islands, or people who are Southeast Asian)
Conclusion:
Okay so as I already said in the previous paragraph, that (important moments in history) was the last paragraph before it’s time for the conclusion. Now in a conclusion, it’s time to end whatever you have written and that’s me right now because I pretty much covered everything that I needed to, which means that it’s time to put this information report to an end. But before that, I will be summarizing this whole information report by telling you just 1 fact from each of the 5 paragraphs. (If you don’t know what paragraph I’m talking about, they are the location, landmark, food, culture, important moments in history) Location: – where in the world is it? The Philippines has 7,641 islands! Landmarks: the Philippines is a country that has more volcanoes than towns! Food: There is a famous dessert called “Halo-halo” in the Philippines which you have to mix together everything in it and the word “halo-halo” means “mix-mix”. Culture: Pagmamano is a show of respect for older people. (For adults like your parents, your Aunt, your Uncle, your Grandma, your Grandpa and ect) Important moments in history: Spain colonized the Philippines for 333 years! (1521-1898) So that’s all about the Philippines! I hope you enjoyed learning about it and hopefully you also learned a lot from this information report! Maybe someday you’ll even be able to also write an information report about the Philippines using all this information I gave you or better yet, you could write about another country (of your choice) by researching all about it just like what I did. I enjoyed writing this country because learned of cool new facts about the Philippines! I enjoyed writing all about it! I also liked the fact how there are more volcanoes than towns and how there are 7,641 islands! It was really interesting. I think I added a lot of detail and wrote a lot. I’m pretty proud of my writing.
