How to dispose of school lunch rubbish

How do you dispose of your lunch rubbish at school? Are you doing it the right way?

Well, I’m going to explain to you how to do it correctly, and the reasons behind it.

The first thing you need to do (Obviously) Is eat your lunch! If you don’t eat all of it, that’s okay, but there is an important thing you need to do before you just throw it into the rubbish.

Next to the rubbish bins, there is a little orange bucket with mitre ten written on the side.  In there is where you put all your food scraps, like orange peels, but also leftover lunches. So after you have eaten your lunch, you scrape your leftover scraps into the little orange bin.
When these bins are emptied, the scraps are dumped into the compost bin.

What is compost, you might ask,

Well compost is the recycling of organic waste. The food scraps and leaves and things go onto the top, then worms that live in the compost bin, decompose the food into worm manure(Poop)! -Which is extremely good for the garden. You can mix it in with your soil or potting mix, and put it around your plants.
Another thing that people do with food scraps is give it to the pigs-for pig feed.

Another benefit of putting less food in the normal rubbish is- less rubbish goes into landfill.
Landfill is where all rubbish goes when the rubbish truck takes it away from your house. They fill a big hole filled with rubbish, then bury it and it stays there for generations and generations- which is VERY bad!

And finally, now that you have no food scraps, you squash your box(If you have a box) and put it in the normal rubbish bin. By squashing it, you are making more room for other rubbish in that bag-which saves lots of money.

It’s important that we put our rubbish in the bin, because otherwise, we could get

  1. Rats
  2. Maggots
  3. Ants

But also, By putting rubbish in the bin, we are keeping our school tidy.

And that is how you dispose of your lunch rubbish at school. Next time you may think before just throwing your rubbish in the bin.
