We had another House of Science Kit so we spent the whole week learning about bones! We were learning all about how bones are different sizes for different jobs. Some bones need to be big because they hold a lot of our body weight, like our thigh bones. Some bones need to be small so that part of the body can move a lot, like our hand bones. We drew an outline of our bodies and the different bones of our skeletons with chalk.
We also looked at animal skeletons! We saw real bird and rabbit skeletons. We were amazed that the bird skeleton wasn’t actually a little dinosaur. We then looked at pictures of skeletons and guessed what animal the skeleton came from. We had to think about what kind of bones the skeletons had and what they might use them for. We then used Explain Everything to take a photo of the skeleton and draw the animal we think it is over top.
The last thing we did was look at real X-rays. We talked about how X-ray machines are important for checking that our bones are all okay. We even looked at Miss Bee’s X-Ray from when she broke her foot! We then drew an x-ray of our own hand using crayons and paper. We think they will look like real X-rays through the light in the window.
