WALT: Think critically about texts
Hi everyone!
In Kereru for instructional reading, my group and I have been reading the article called all as one. It’s about a mosque in Wellington, the Kilbirnie mosque. People from different countries went to NZ as refugees or just to find jobs. They went to the mosque which some people treat as a second home. At the mosque people pray and eat together. Fridays are mostly important because when they can’t all be together on other days, Fridays they are double the amount. Tahir is one of the people who work for the Muslim community. His daughter, Maria shares her experience from Ramadan. She says that it has become easier to fast now that she’s 10, but it’s still hard seeing other kids enjoy their lunch. Sharmake also shares his experience since he’s spent most of his life at the mosque. They also talked about how they have open days where everyone is welcome to come. Anyways, this week we had a follow up task again which is just the same as the other weeks.
For the follow up task, we had to get 6 boxes ( using shapes ) and in each one write a question. So 6 questions. For each of them, they had to start with who, what, when, how, why and where. The questions had to be related to the text. For example: Why is Friday the most important day of the week? Where is the mosque? Then, under each question we had to answer it. So for where is the mosque you can write, it’s in the North Island, Wellington, New Zealand. It’s named the Kilbirnie mosque etc. This had to be done on a google drawing.
Here are my questions and answers:
This task was pretty easy to do probably because we do it every week. I just got stuck on who, where and how. I couldn’t really think of a question right away. To conclude this, what I’ve learnt is more about the mosque and Muslim community. I found this article pretty interesting to read. It was nice to read about how Tahir explains that they have become a family. I can see where ” all as one ” comes from.
