Kai Ora, in class i had to make two planes, one big and one smaller and see what one goes more far. My hypothesis is that smaller plane will go more far because the smaller and lighter than the bigger one. watch the video to see how i made them. i took my two planes and flew on by one three times each. the first time i flew it the bigger one went more far then the small one, next was the smaller, what one do you think will win? on my last one the bigger plane won.
things you need to make it.
- A4 paper
- A5 paper
- Chalk
- Metre stick
Background
The first paper plane was made around 200 years ago.
The largest paper aircraft had a wingspan of 59.74 ft.
Joe Ayoob recorded the longest distance flown by a paper airplane in February 2012. His plane flew 226 feet, 10 inches.
The longest distance ever flown by a paper plane was 88.1 metres.
The longest-lasting paper airplane flight flew 29.2 seconds.
There are four forces that act on the paper plane when it is flying.
- Thrust, how fast it is pushed
- Lift, how much wing area can be pushed up
- Gravity, pulls the plane down
- Drag, slows the plane down
