DFI Day 8 Computational Thinking

A few gems from Dorothy – knowledge is power and education empowers!! Access to information empowers the learner to be in control. This resonates with my wairua!

Encourage appropriate two-way conversations with your learners. This is easy to overlook in a busy classroom. However this can also be accomplished through commenting on blogs. I had never really considered that before.

Teachers are teaching future innovators therefore we need to encourage problem solving and questioning as well as value failure as that is where learning happens. I particularly enjoyed this quote “the question is more important than the answer!!”

AI and future technology concerns me. Perhaps that is because I watch too many dooms-day movies involving AI that learns to think for itself. After that session today I had considered returning home to live off the land. However I love AI tools and my kindle so ignorance here really is bliss!!

My very limited understanding of coding/programming scares me so it was good to see it at a very basic level and see that it is problem solving in small steps.  I am not very good at it but that’s neither here nor there 🙂

8 weeks here on the DFI has confirmed that technology is not my strength but I have enjoyed learning here, headaches, frustration and all. I am not looking forward to the exam next week!!
