What Is A Glass Harp? –

Hello  everybody!

Today in science class we have been doing an experiment about the glass harp. To record this experiment, we went into groups and created a video about our experiment. The main goal of this experiment is to learn about how the glass harp works. I am going to show you some details about how we did the experiment, the video we have made and some useful websites we found during our research.

Details About The Experiment –

Members –

Divya, Tarinda & Ethan.

Hypothesis –

I think that the glass harp produces sound waves because of the movement of the air inside the glass. The air will hit the surface of the water and repel back and the sound from the glass harp is the sound of the air hitting the water surface.

Equipment –

All of the images above are from Google Images.

Method –

  1. Add different amounts of water into your test tubes
  2. Place your test tubes into the test tubes stand
  3. Bring your test tubes to a flat, easy to clean surface
  4. Blow into your tubes once at a time
  5. Record your results of the sounds you hear on a piece of paper /  Chromebook
  6.  Repeat step 4 and 5 until you have finished testing all of the tubes you have
  7. After you finish the steps above, you are done

Conclusion & Reflection –

In conclusion, I have learnt how to use the glass harp and the knowledge behind it. The hardest part in this class for me was to organise my team. The reason why I found it hard was because at first, my team was a bit disorganised and had trouble cooperating with each other. To overcome this challenge, I told my team about the plan and finished off the preparation of the experiment. After I did this, my team became much more organised, they understood the purpose and plan of the experiment and even finished the work faster than I expected. I enjoyed this class because this class made me understand how the glass harp works and the importance of an organised team. I hope in the future, we can learn more about how different instruments, such as trumpets or euphonium works.

Thank you for your time and patience,

Divya
