Manaiakalani: Number Through Measurement

I have found the range of number talk activities very beneficial, having the opportunity to practice before I share with the students has enabled me to gain confidence and ensure I know what I am doing.  I am looking forward to using the number strings that have an entry, helper, and challenge problem that enables all students to achieve success and have opportunities to learn at a more advanced level with their peer support. The Number Strings can be implemented across all the strands.

I will be creating some display-guided questions to use with the students so they can use them during their number talk conversations.

I have previously talked about the importance of introducing maths vocabulary with a range of examples.  I will continue introducing, modeling, and prompting the students to use the correct vocabulary. Having the vocabulary easily accessible is important, glued in books and displayed on the walls.

Fractions and Decimals as Operators

Throughout this professional development, I have been the learner and I realize the importance of reading and fully understanding the questions and learning opportunities.  Having the opportunity to explore all the digital tools has been fantastic.  I have been using a lot more digital tools in connection with a range of hands-on learning resources in my maths programme.  The students have been really engaged with the learning tools.

I loved the measurement library bookshelf, and any opportunity to share my love of books so students can form connections with mathematics, a creative way to introduce a new strand, vocabulary, and a concept both in the classroom and everyday contexts.

Initially, I found the maths tasks board extremely busy however I realize that these maths board examples have to cater to a range of learning needs and years from 4- 8.  As the professional development has progressed I have found the variety of number talks, teaching and consolidation/maintenance a valuable re

Hamish kerr by Harry Mcg

Hello and welcome to my blog I hope you enjoy it. Hamish Kerr came to our school. He was saying how when he was 5 years old he was on a bike and he got down a hill. He was in a big arena and there was one tree in the middle of the open space and he face planted into a tree. Hes sister was on top of the tree and she was laughing at him and then she fell out of a tree and then she was hospitable. One time when he was practising hes high jumping. He was going to jump over his wife. He did but he nelay kicked his wife in the face. It was so close to kicking her that the back of his heel was at her eye. When he jumps he says when he jumps hes heel had most of the weight when he jumps. Hes coach was a guy named jimmy they are close friends. when he won the gold medal hes coach was there to support him and the coach was on the TV yelling in excitement. I touched hes gold medal everyone did. It was so heavy but so cool at the same time. When he won the gold medal he celebrated by ruining around in excitement. The most famous person that he met was Siomine Bibles. One of the best gymnastics out there. Energy of Italy (REMIX)

Huge shout out to NathanH for making the original post!

So Italy was making pizza then America, England, France, came into Italy’s kitchen and said…

America: “Hey, Italy.”

(France stumbles, lightly bumping into the United Kingdom, causing an awkward glance between the two.)

Italy: “Ciao, America.”

America: “What are you working on over there?”

Italy: “Just making my famous pizza… Want a taste?”

America: “Not bad, but I think it could use something extra.”

Italy: “Oh? And what might that be?”

(America casually reaches into his bag, slowly revealing a can of pineapple.)

Italy: (eyes narrowing) “Wait… what are you doing with that canned pineapple?”

America: “Relax, it’s just Hawaiian pizza.”

Italy: “No… not that… don’t you dare put that on my pizza!”

(The tension rises as America slowly inches the pineapple closer. Italy watches in horror as the pieces make contact, his expression darkening with every second. Finally, the pineapple lands on the pizza. Italy’s eyes narrow into furious slits.)

Fight Breaks Out:

In a split second, Italy grabs his rolling pin and slams America against the bar wall. America’s glasses fly off, but he quickly regains his balance. Bursting from the debris, Italy charges, and the two engage in a fierce fight, their weapons clashing with each hit.

For a tense three seconds, America struggles to land a critical blow while Italy delivers one solid hit after another. They leap into the air, and in a swift series of strikes, Italy lands two more critical hits, shattering America’s defenses. The final blow sends America crashing to the ground, unconscious.

Suddenly, France rushes in, wielding a massive breadstick. With a series of three critical strikes, he gains the upper hand momentarily, but Italy swiftly counters, launching five pizza cutters in his direction. They cut through the air with precision, forcing France on the defensive. Italy follows up with a series of relentless attacks, bouncing France against the wall and ending with a devastating double combo that leaves France sprawled on the floor.

Next, England enters with flair, executing a mid-air spin, his weapon of choice—a battered fish—aimed at Italy. They trade blows, each delivering four successive critical hits. England then throws a sardine like a spear, but Italy dodges, retaliating with a barrage of croutons that overwhelm England. A final supercombo sends England crashing to the ground.

Turkey makes a surprise entrance, smashing into Italy, but he’s quickly knocked back with a powerful strike. Several other contenders rush in, but none can withstand Italy’s relentless force.

Greece, brandishing a trident, takes his turn, landing four critical strikes on Italy. But Italy’s counterattack is swift and brutal, launching Greece into the air as tears well up in his eyes from the sheer force of the blows.

Germany joins the battle as Greece falls, using him as a makeshift weapon in a spinning attack. With a sturdy sausage, Germany manages to strike Italy a couple of times but fails to deal any significant damage. Italy counters, knocking Germany back with a powerful hit, before delivering a final rolling pin throw that sends him flying out of the fight.

Finally, all the defeated fighters—America, France, England, Turkey, and Greece—stand together for one last effort against Italy. But Italy, undeterred, prepares his ultimate move. He conjures an enormous pizza, pressing down on his foes with its overwhelming weight. There’s a bright flash of light, followed by three intense explosions, shaking the entire arena. As the smoke clears, the restaurant is left in ruins. The five opponents, along with a few bystanders, lie scattered and defeated.

Italy: (smirking, dusting off his hands) “Behold the true power of pizza.”

(A short, triumphant tune plays, and the screen fades to black.)
