Monster Vocabulary

 

Today in our reading group, we explored the world of monsters with the text “Monsters” by Tricia Glensor. We learned about different monsters from various cultures, like the Kāhui Tipua from Aotearoa and the bunyip from Australia, and how these creatures show the fears and beliefs of their cultures.

To start, we made a vocabulary chart to define new words from the text, helping us understand the stories better.

For our follow-up task, we became monster critics. We each picked a monster and wrote a review from the point of view of a character who encounters that monster. We described the monster, supported our ideas with evidence from the text, and explained how the point of view influenced how readers feel about the monster.
