Jasper Jones analysis

We read Jasper Jones by Silvey Craig. I worked with, Preslee, Pearl,Bill, Hamish, Giorgio and Stanley. 

The first part of the chapters give us an idea of the narrative style, introduces our main character Charlie Bucktins and illustrates the main plot of Laura Wisharts mysterious death. Jasper Jones is a disappointment of the town, an orphan boy who stumbled across Laruras body who was his lover and was going to get framed if he reported it to the police because of his reputation. He decides to drag Charlie into the mess to help him hide the body and solve the case on there own.

Looking for Alibrandi

Learning Goal:

AS91098 2.1 Written Text(s): We are learning to analyse specified aspect(s) of studied written text(s), supported by evidence.

Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta, we chose this novel as a group, the group consists of Jayden, Ethan, Zack, Jeana, Jessica,  and Turtle.  We chose this book because it stands out more compared to the other seven books in detail and the overall theme. The starting novel consists mainly of the setting of the story, the opening characters, and the setting where everything takes place. The start of the novel grabs the attention of the reader.  As a group everyone did the first chapters 4-5, by doing this we can gather the details that explain the aspect of the book from the beginning.  Each member in the group managed to write one slide of basically each beginning of the novel. 

 

I already finished the novel, and right now I’m trying to finish the movie version of the novel.

National Flags of New Zealand

For this activity, We learnt about National Flags. Something I learnt while making this DLO, I learnt that The British flag that is on the NZ flag represents the Union Jacks. The blue color represents the blue sea and the sky’s surroundings. The diamond shaped postition that the stars are forming represents the southern cross signify our place in the south Pacific ocean. I enjoyed this activity because I learnt about what the diamond shaped postition that the stars are forming represents.

Tractor Trek and Think and Be Me Show

The students had an amazing day last Thursday as the Tractor Trek came to school with Cat Levine and the Think and Be Me Show.

First up, the Tractor Trek. Our tamariki were wide-eyed with wonder as a convoy of  tractors of all shapes and sizes rumbled onto the field. The tamariki loved getting up close to the machines and even getting a chance to sit in the driver’s seat. A huge thank you to the Tractor Trek organisers and the generous tractor owners for sharing their passion with us! Ngā mihi nui to Leahana (Josiah’s mum) for taking such cool photo’s of our class.

    

 

The students were then treated to the Think and Be Me Show which included participation by lots of our own students and Whaea Jade too. This interactive and engaging show delivered powerful messages about resilience, self-belief, and celebrating our unique qualities. We are using Think and Be Me strategies to help us notice how we feel and strategies to help us manage our feelings. The characters Worry Watchdog, Angry Dragon and Cool Cat have been wonderful in helping learn the strategies. (Click on the link above to visit our class site)

This is what we made and how we did it, first we did our research about our flags that we selected such as New Zealand, British, and the Maori flag, we researched who created it and what each colour and Designs represented,

This is the DLO that me and my classmate created, Something i liked about this subject is that i found out alot more information about each flag that i chose to research about,

And after obtaining the info we have been searching for, both of us put the information in a Google presentation, and explain its history after we have finished putting the information altogether!

For this activity, We learnt about the national New Zealand flags, We went into pairs to get both sides of our prior knowledge of New Zealand, and then we reasearched about the national flag discovering on how the new Zealand flag was made and all the ones before. I found out that New Zealand was widely chossen to be our national flag since 1869.

Spencer park camp

Kia ora  today I will be talking to you about my experience at Spencer  Park camp

On February 18 2025 our  school year 8/7s attended Spencer park. We had to wake up early  and it really annoyed me because I was still very tired. We got ready and hopped in the car. I couldn’t wait to get to school. Me and my brother got to school just in time. We had to pack a tent,sleeping bag, and day bags and go to Tangaroa. When we got there we asked a teacher where to put our things and belongings.

 

Then we made our way to the astroturf. We had to talk a lot and wait a lot, which really annoyed me and we went into walking/running groups 1, 2 , 3 and 4. There was a running group which I thought was weird because who’s running 9.ks but. I chose to walk because who in the hecka is running 9.ks but the walk was pretty easy to me and some others I could’ve gone the whole way to be honest and it wouldn’t have taken as long as it was. In my opinion I honestly believe that we should’ve just kept going because we had to stop every 20/10 minutes which was very annoying and stupid.

 

 there wasn’t even any seats to sit on only grass  sometimes dirt and leaves it was kinda sore because little bugs and dirt got on my but and back and we were walking in the forest the only good thing about the forest was the shade under the trees because it was very hot and irritating and i listening to music all the way to spencer park. when we got to spencer park i layed down on the grass because i was so tired but happy that we got there we played around until everyone got there some of us played volleyball while waiting by the time everyone got there we had to do the roll after that we

 

 went to the campsite to set up our tents before hand we had to go in groups and figure out who was bringing what and what tents everyone slept in while setting up our tents and cooking food it started to rain and kind of thunder we left all our belonging outside of our tents so we had to quickly get them in the tents we waited for the rain to pass till we went back and luckily it stopped raining and we got to finish off our things and 

 

after it stopped raining all of us went back to what we were doing before the rain. after  it stopped raining everyone went back to what we were doing Tks dad was setting up more tents because there wasn’t enough  room in any of the the other tents our group was pretty big so we all had to sort out what tents everyone got to sleep in. Dante,Tiaki,Tupara did not have a tent so Tks dad had to bring more tents thanks to him none of us had to sleep outside or squeeze into other tents. I was so thankful for  that because I of course wouldn’t like sharing a tent with others because I’m getting older and need my personal space. when we sorted our tents and sleeping arrangements  we had to get ready for activities the activities were really fun and after the activities we went to play preditor it was really fun because it was dark and no one knew were anyone was going luckily most of us got flash lights so most of us could see. lastly we went to adrenelyn forest and got over our fears.
