Hi guys! Today for Science, we had to collect data for our experiment. If you are wondering what experiment I am doing, I am doing a water drop experiment. I got into a group of three and then I had to drop mystery solutions on a coin. ( btw/By the way, the people in my group were Olivia And Trisha.) With the amount of drops I counted, I had to find out which solution was water. Anyways, enough talking, let me get on with the blog post.
The aim for the experiment was to use our senses, observing what solution was water and work as a team. The materials we used were test tubes, test tubes racks, pipette/dropper and a coin. First squeeze the pipette/dropper to get the liquid, Then drop the liquid drop at a time and count how many drops go on the coin until the liquid spills of the coin. Tally the number up, try with the other liquids and repeat the steps 3-4 times to get accurate results. Compare these results and find out which solution was water. Then the data that was collected was put into a spread sheet and the bar graph compared the results we got. Here is a picture.
As you can see, Liquid B and Water look similar. You can tell because they have relatively the same amount of drops which gives us a clue. So in my opinion, I think B is water. I think this because like I said earlier, they have relatively the same amount of drops, and when I was doing the experiment, they looked the same. Then I had to figure out what the other solutions were. I definitely think that C is Vinegar. The reason why I think this is because the smell of it smelled like vinegar and the colour of the liquid looked like vinegar too. A was water and salt. I think this because it looked like water but when salt was added, it changed the amount of drops because of the chemical reaction. D was water and soap. I think this because the liquid had little bubbles in it and it looked like water but because of the soap, the chemical reaction of that changed the results. Now I have some questions to answer. Why do we do multiple tests? The reason why we do multiple tests is because we get more accurate results. What might happen if we didn’t do multiple tests? We might not get accurate results first of all, and if there is any interference with the test, the results might change and we might not get any answers at all. Why did the results vary within the class? The reason why the answers vary within the class was because every single group had a different sized coin. Could we have done anything to make our data more accurate/better? The things I would do to make the results more accurate would be to make the drops the same size, no moving the table, make sure that the person who is counting are concentrated on counting and not going too fast and to not put the drops on the coin too fast to get the right number. I hope you like today’s blog post, plz comment and tell me 2 positive and a work on if you guys think I could do something better. Thanks for listening! BYEE!!!!
