This week, we have been learning to ‘divide in parts. ‘ For example, 224 divided by 7.
For this work, we needed to know our multiples of four. We used our knowledge of our ten times table first and asked, “How many sevens go into 224”? Our first split will be a multiple of ten, which is 210 (7×30), and we have 14 left over. So again we asked, “How many sevens make 14? (14 ÷ 7 = 2 ).
Therefore, our answer would be 224 ÷ 7 = 30 + 2 = 32 because, 210 ÷ 7 = 30 : 14 ÷ 7=2 227÷ 7=32
See my poster below of this strategy.
