Hi guys today I’m going to be telling you about the history of kai in Aotearoa.
The kai collections these days are in cans and stored in containers. But in the past they used to store foods in bull kelp. Bull kelp is a type of seaweed that maori ancestor used to store foods like fish and meat. In the past these were very useful as you could store and keep it for later to use. Maori used to hunt Titi birds. Titi birds are a type of birds that are harvested by maori ancestors. Back then maori didn’t have super markets so they had to hunt and make their storage. They would bury food in the ground to make it better.
