Hey, It’s me Tovie and today i’m writing this blog to tell you how my class’s egg parachute activity turned out.
Aim:
- Why did we do this experiment? What science ideas were we investigating?
We did this experiment to learn about forces and motion, the main science ideas we were investigating.
Research:
- Include the link to your planning + any other research you did about what makes a good parachute. Why did you choose to design your parachute the way you did?
LINK to our planning. We didn’t plan much; we did it mostly in our heads and through improvisation. The reason we designed our parachute like we did was because the box (Shaped like a house) made space for a lot of cushioning and comfort to protect our egg. We also used cushioning inside the box to spread out the impact, making it so that one area wasn’t affected badly.
Method:
- Numbered steps of the experiment. It should include planning, building, and dropping your parachute. Include photos of your parachute.
I’m not going to number I,t but basically we planned, built and planned at the same time and the dropped it.
Unfortunately, we don’t have photos, but here is where we dropped the egg:
Results:
- Did your egg break? How long did it take for your egg to fall? How did this compare to the rest of the class’s parachutes?
No, our egg didn’t break. Our egg, through all the layers of cushioning, made it out break free! We don’t know exactly how long it took for our parachute to fall, but I can’t estimate it at around 3.6 seconds!!
Compared to the class’s parachutes, I think it was a slow fall,l but everyone did great and made awesome parachutes, no one’s egg broke! (from parachuting at least).
Discussion:
- Why did some of the parachutes fall faster than others?
- Were the forces balanced or unbalanced when your egg was falling?
Some parachutes fell fasterthann others because of
- How big was the plastic ‘umbrella’ part of the parachute (As if it were smaller, it would catch enough air to open up faster)
- Because of how much weight their container held, their egg.
The forces were balanced when our egg was falling until at the end where it tilted to it’s side and then landed on it’s side.
Conclusion:
- How would you improve your design next time? Why would you do this? Reflect on how your experiment went.
Next time, to improve my design, I would make it look more visually pleasing. The reason I would do this is that, other than that, our parachute was really good and worked nicely and well. I’m happy we go to do this experiment it was fun and we had a great time. I liked how my parachute turned out and I think Nyka (My teammate) Did too!!
Anyway, that’s the blog for today. Thank you for reading!!
