ear 10 Forces and Motion Assessment Task – Wind Racers
Include the following in your wind racer blog post
Aim: To make something that moved in the wind and it was like a wind racer.
Equipment: String, paper, bamboo sticks, pen, skewers , cardboard, trolley, tape
Method: When we got the trolley from Mr we started to design the trolley, we first stuck the bamboo sticks in each side or the trolley and then after we started to make the sides out of cardboard to cover up the sides, and then we made our sail out of paper and stabbed it through the bamboo sticks then we made a front part so that it would move faster, then we added cool things like a canon and a stick poking out of the thing.
Results: Include distance/ time recordings, your speed calculation, and picture.
| Distance travelled (m) | Time taken (s) | Speed calculation (ms-1) |
| 8.0 | 5.5 | 1.07 ms-1 |
Discussion:
- What are the forces acting on your wind racer? Friction and Thrust
- Are they balanced/ unbalanced? Unbalanced
- What is net force and how does this relate to the forces acting on your wind racer? it accelerates, decelerates, or maintains a constant speed
- What are the strength of forces acting on it at different stages? thrust was happenig when the air blew against the sail and it moved forwards.
- How do the forces acting on the wind racer affect the motion of the wind racer at different points?,the wind’s thrust overcomes friction, causing acceleration
- Why do you think results may vary in the class? Because we made it different
Conclusion:
- How was your wind racer successful/unsuccessful and why? It was pretty successful because it actually made it the whole way which was low-key unexpected
- How could you improve it? make it less weight so it would move faster.
