Shaping Stillness: The Art Of The Clay Bowl

It’s been a while since I’ve blogged, but I promised myself to do everything, and blog everything. So welcome back to my blog, after an entire term of not blogging. I’ve gathered enough courage to redeem myself. After all, I don’t want to risk that Scholarship, since it’s a big opportunity. Back to the topic, pottery. If you’re not aware, it’s pretty much the art of clay, moulding it into any type of shape possible. You could make a vase, a flower pot, or even just a simple cup. It all relies on your imagination. This week Monday at Tech, we were told that we’d be making a simple bowl, being handed a cube of clay afterwards, the next instruction was to bring a jar filled with water, with only one per group. After everyone had gotten one, we were told to dip our hands in it, then to wet the trap on the table, to make sure the clay wouldn’t stick. After doing so, you’d also wet the clay, but not too much. Since it’d become too runny. My bowl was, flat on the top, wasn’t really a bowl in my opinion, but I liked it.
