KIA ORA AMAZING BLOGGER’S
This week is the last day of term and we sadly ran out of our novel study book so we have to do a Journal story for the last week.
Summary of what we read:
Polynesians say that the tides have crossed the pacific, from west to east and the tides have reached west Polynesians, Samoa and Tonga. In the last wave of migration they settled in Hawaii in the north, Rapa Nui in the east and also we can’t forget Aotaroa that leads to the south which means that Aotaroa is in the south.
Samuel Wallis and his men stayed together for 5 weeks, while they were together they met Tupaia, and when James cooks endeavour arrived 2 years later. Cook had to come to the pacific to observe and measure the transit of Venus.
Taiato and Tupaia recovered from scurvy but then he had a very hard fall from a bad illness again. The young Tahitian died first and a few days later Tupaia died too. They were both buried on an island in the harbour. Cook returned to Aotearoa in 1773, but the Maoris were expecting Tupaia.
The Firsts task was to make an interview so here it is!
My second task was to choose 5 words and put them in a sentence
- mate kōngenge = died + People always mate kōngenge
- kutoro = involved + I got kutoro in hockey
- Hapai = journey + I went on a Hapai in the weekend
- Mana Whakatipu = talent + I went to a Mana Whakatipu over the holidays
- Pirihi = priest + Pirihi are at the church
